The Ashab al-Yamin stabbing attack was a terrorist, antisemitic hate crime stabbing carried out on 29 April 2026 in the predominantly Jewish suburb of Golders Green, London, United Kingdom. Two Jewish men, aged approximately 76 and 34, were stabbed by a lone Islamofascist, Somali born attacker shortly after leaving Hagers Shul synagogue. The attack was quickly claimed by the Iran-linked Islamist front group Ashab al-Yamin (also known as Harakat Ashab Al-Yamim Al-Islamiyya), which praised the assault as a "heroic [sic] act" targeting "Zionists[sic]" - a classic euphemism for any, random Jews by Neo-Nazis or Islamofascists.

UK authorities formally declared the incident a terrorist attack. The suspect, 45-year-old Somali-born British national Essa Suleiman, was charged with two counts of attempted murder and possession of a bladed article in a public place.. Both victims survived and were reported in stable condition.

The attack formed part of a broader wave of Islamic fascist Republic of Iran-backed Islamist violence targeting Jewish individuals and institutions across Europe since early 2026, amid escalating global Islamo-Arab led incitement's created tensions following the October 7, 2023 genocidal Hamas atrocities onslaught in Israel.

Background

Ashab al-Yamin is an Iran-linked jihadist proxy and propaganda network that has claimed responsibility for at least 16 attacks against Jewish, Christian, and Western targets in Europe. The group operates primarily through pro-Iran regime Telegram channels and promotes radical Islamist ideology, framing attacks on random Jews as a fake "defense" of "humanity [borrowing Nazism], the Al Aqsa Mosque, palestine, and Palestinian prisoners [AKA terrorists]."

Prior to the Golders Green stabbings, the group had focused primarily on arson and improvised explosive device (IED) attacks against Jewish institutions. The 29 April attack marked the first time Ashab al-Yamin claimed a physical assault directly targeting individual Jews rather than buildings or organizations. Just days earlier, on 17 April 2026, the group had claimed an arson attempt against the Jewish educational organization Jewish Futures in London. Weeks earlier it shocked London whith another 'antisemitic hate crime,' when 4 Muslims including some Pakistani born set alight four ambulances belonging to a Jewish volunteer group parked outside a synagogue in North London.

Israel's Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism had issued repeated warnings in the weeks leading up to the attack about the growing threat posed by Ashab al-Yamin and similar Iran-backed networks operating across Europe.

The attack

On the evening of 29 April 2026, the attacker stabbed two Jewish men in Golders Green, a well-known Jewish neighborhood in north London. The victims, a 76-year-old and a 34-year-old, had just left Hagers Shul synagogue when they were assaulted. Local Jewish volunteer security personnel and police officers quickly intervened and apprehended the suspect at the scene.

Hours after the stabbings, Ashab al-Yamin released a statement and video via pro-Iran Telegram channels claiming responsibility. The group described the attack as carried out by its "lone wolves" and celebrated the wounding of "two Zionists" who were "critically wounded and on the brink of death." The statement further incited additional attacks against Jews, while also praising would-be Trump assassin Cole Allen and explicitly calling on "free people" to assassinate then-U.S. President Donald Trump.

The group included CCTV footage of the stabbing in its propaganda materials.

Attacker and investigation

The attacker, Essa Suleiman, a 45-year-old Somali-born man, had a documented history of serious violence and mental health issues. He had previously been referred to the UK government's Prevent counter-radicalization program. Despite this, he was able to carry out the attack in a heavily Jewish area.

British counter-terrorism police, led by Commander Laurence Taylor, treated the case as terrorism from the outset. Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley confirmed the suspect's background. In response to the rising threat, the UK raised its national terrorism threat level from "substantial" to "severe" on 30 April 2026, indicating that an attack was now considered "highly likely."

Reactions

Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the attack and acknowledged that British Jewish communities were living in fear, stating: "People are scared, scared to show who they are, scared to go to synagogue, scared to send their children to school as Jews." He pledged increased police protection for Jewish areas and stronger action against antisemitic incitement.

When Starmer visited the site, his arrival was greeted by a small group of protesters jeering and shouting “Shame on you,” and “Jew harmer.” incitement.
