Ivana Bacik

Senator Ivana Bacik (pronounced ba,chik) (born 1968) is the Reid Professor of Law, Criminology and Penology at Trinity College, Dublin. This post was previously held by Presidents Mary McAleese and Mary Robinson. Her family name is of Czech origin. She was elected to Seanad Eireann in 2007 (other notable Senators include David Norris, Donie Cassidy and Eoghan Harris).[1]

As a Professor, she holds typically strong liberal views; she is a long-time campaigner for legalisation of abortion and same-sex marriage in Ireland. She is very concerned about Global Warming. She also supports an academic boycott of Israel in support of Palestinians.[1][2]
