Maximiliano Hernández Martínez

Maximiliano Hernández Martínez (October 29, 1882 – May 15, 1966) was the president of El Salvador from 1931 until 1944. While he is often accused for being a "fascist", Martínez declared the war to the Axis powers on December 8, 1941. He became an big ally of Franklin D. Roosevelt during the Second World War. Martínez was an opponent of Communism. 1944 he was overthrown so that he escaped into Guatemala and later to Honduras, where he was killed by his own driver.

Martínez was a Theosophist.[1]
