Mickey Mouse is the mascot and main character of the Walt Disney Corporation.

Mickey Mouse originated in 1928 in Steamboat Willie, which debuted on Nov. 18, 1928, as the first animated cartoon with talking characters.

On January 1, 2024, Disney's copyright on the original Mickey Mouse expired. In previous years when this had occurred, Disney would lobby for and obtain a 20-year extension as it had in 1998 under the guise of the Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act.[1]

On January 1, 2024, "Steamboat Willie" Mickey Mouse entered the public domain. Shortly after that, it was revealed that a horror game and two horror movies were in development.
