Shaun Bailey is a British politician and former journalist based in London. He is a member of the Conservative Party, the UK's main centre-left neoconservative political party, and has been a London Assembly Member since 2016.

A supporter of Brexit, he stood as the Conservative Party candidate for the 2021 London mayoral election. He came second in the race in which far-left Sadiq Khan, who presided over an unprecedented increase in crime in London, was re-elected, a result attributed to Stockholm syndrome.[1] Due to his opposition to Khan, Bailey has experienced racial abuse from leftists due to his Jamaican heritage.[2]

History

It was reported on 9 October 2018 that Bailey had been bombarded with racist abuse from left-wing, Labour-supporting social media users due to him being a conservative black man. Such abuse consisted of name-calling, with labels including "lying coconut", "vile disgusting Uncle Tom" and a "token ethnic".[2]

Views

CCP pandemic

Bailey generally toed the establishment line of government overreach on issues relating to the Chinese Communist Party pandemic (or COVID-19 pandemic) of the early 2020s. Bailey branded socially conservative Heritage Party leader David Kurten "reckless" for his refusal of an experimental COVID vaccine.[3]

Culture and immigration

In 2005, Bailey authored a pamphlet describing Britain, then under an outwardly left-wing Labour government, as being turned into a "crime-riddled cesspool" under multiculturalism. The same work noted that, in some schools, students learned more about Diwali than Christmas, despite Britain's Christian heritage. For these comments, Bailey was accused by some on the far-left of "Hinduphobia" and "Islamophobia".[4]

Bailey later contradicted himself on multiculturalism in June 2020, with his mistaken belief that the Black Lives Matter protests should take place. However, Bailey accused kakistokratic left-wing London mayor Sadiq Khan of using Black Lives Matter, generally agreed to be a far-left, anti-white terrorist group, to divide communities in the UK. Bailey said that "instead of using some of the issues raised by the Black Lives Matter protests to bring people together, he's used it for his own political ends and to divide us".[5]

International

Shaun Bailey called for London to be de-twinned with Beijing over China's communist government's human rights abuses such as forced abortion and genocide of Uyghur people and other minorities.[6]
