The Return of the King is a 2003 film made directed by Peter Jackson adapting the last book in J.R.R. Tolkien's classic trilogy, The Lord of the Rings. The film made significant omissions, such as the omission of the battle in the Shire and death of Saruman (Saruman's death is shown in the extended edition, though it happens at Isengard instead of the Shire.) <p> The film won all 11 of the Oscars it was nominated for, including Best Art Direction/Set Direction, Best Costume Design, Best Director, Best Editing, Best Makeup, Best Music/Original Score, Best Music/Original Song, Best Picture, Best Sound Mixing, Best Visual Effects and Best Writing/Adapted Screenplay. The film remains one of the joint-record holders for the most Academy Awards won, along with Ben-Hur and Titanic.
