Talk:Kavanaugh smear

Please revise the beginning of the article

The article is specifically about the attempted rape allegations against Kavanaugh -- it's not about general opposition to him. If so, we could talk about the Dems' opposition to his judicial philosophy (interpreting the Constitution as written). Since the left-wing is now trying to destroy his reputation in order to defeat him, we should have an article directly addressing this. --1990'sguy (talk) 21:12, 21 September 2018 (EDT)
Prof. Dershowitz says Maryland law defines rape as penetration or attempted penetration. Nothing of the sort is alleged to have happen here. Can we stop using that term, please? RobSDeep Six the Deep State!`
You're right, Rob. Please make the changes to the entry as you think best.--Andy Schlafly (talk) 01:31, 24 September 2018 (EDT)

Note; the March 2012 pre-primary New Yorker article by Jeffrey Toobin does not mention Romney at all. It merely notes Kavanaugh is whatever Republican's favorite candidate. RobSDeep Six the Deep State! 00:34, 24 September 2018 (EDT)

Reasons for opposing Kavanaugh

It is my understanding that the Kavanaugh smear is motivated less by concern for a woman's right to be free of assault than by prejudice against Kavanaugh because he's a strict constructionist. I heard that the accuser was already strongly opposed to Kavanaugh's nomination before "remembering" the alleged assault. --Ed Poor Talk 10:25, 24 September 2018 (EDT)

I wouldn't mind seeing an article on reasons for opposing him, other than the notion that he might be guilty of the thing they're smearing him with. In other words, let's get to the motivation behind the smear. --Ed Poor Talk 10:27, 24 September 2018 (EDT)

  1. Dr. Ford has falsely accused Judge Kavanaugh for political purposes. [1]
At this point we have, again, collusion betwern the DNC and media to meddle in elections. RobSDeep Six the Deep State! 11:57, 24 September 2018 (EDT)
Smearing Kavanaugh is unlikely to help the Dems in the midterms. It might even hurt them. It was never likely to stop him from getting on the court. So why Democrats? Why? It's all about money. See "Sen. Kamala Harris Blankets Facebook With Anti-Kavanaugh Ads." The donors must be kept in a continuous state of agitation. Why have the Dems learned nothing from their failure in the 2016 election? To the political professionals, it wasn't a failure. They hauled in a ton of cash. PeterKa (talk) 20:13, 26 September 2018 (EDT)
It is Senators posturing for female votes - particularly younger female voters under 25, who may not know the historical background on these issues. We can surmise probably 25% of them have some story to tell, and if their stories apply to a workplace or career inequity, it could be the number one issue a young female voter is concerned about (although they may even be reluctant to tell a pollster that). It's all about "the right to be heard," to speak up without fear of repercussions or ridicule. Tomorrow, GOP Senators & Democrats have the same objective - not to make her look bad. Her story collapses on its own weight - the presumption of innocence wins. Kavanaugh would have to confess at this point to defeat him.
IMO, Blasey Ford should have her day. But ultimatrly it'll look more like vengeance even if someone is inclined to believe. And what's the crime? She feared for her life. That's the point she needs to be convincing on. Sure, it's alleged to be sexually motivated, but by her own admission nothing happened. Can she re-create the terror she felt 36 years later, and that many 15 year old girls have experienced? Possibly. That still doesn't mean Kavanaugh did it. Book on hysteria throughout American history

Michael Savage wrote a book called Stop Mass Hysteria, which deserves a link (and an article). --Ed Poor Talk 08:37, 26 September 2018 (EDT)

NRA ad

Here is a take-no-prisoners pro-Kavanaugh ad from the NRA. PeterKa (talk) 09:41, 27 September 2018 (EDT)

Yearbook allegation

The yearbook allegations could be integrated into the Avenatti section. Avenatti tweeted he could decipher its contents - information he received from 4chan trolls.RobSDeep Six the Deep State! 16:06, 27 September 2018 (EDT)

Reason for changes

I switched the numeric counting of allegations to hanging them firmly around the necks of the sources. Tomorrow the people's elected representatives will pass final judgement for all time on the veracity of this elaborate hoax. We can't let these certified liars and con artists off the hook easily. Latest delay

While the latest delay offers the FBI time to get FD-302 interview reports (like the Bruce Ohr 302's Trump ordered de-classified and Mike Flynn 302's that Andrew McCabe is accused of destroying), this buys time for Michael Avenatti to (in the words of James Carville) "drag hundred dollar bills through trail parks to see what you can find." While the so-called FBI investigation is ongoing, be prepared for another anonymous report published in WaPo alleging someone witnessed Kavanaugh engaged in bestiality with a dog in the backyard at the age of 12, and the FBI will have to spend months tracking down WaPos anonymous source. The head of a Soros-funded group snuck past security and buttonholed Flake while he was on his way to vote in the committee. She convinced Flake to hold out for another delay and an FBI investigation. Rosenstein seems to be running the FBI these days. So I guess we can expect some more "jokes." Like RS says, nobody cares about the investigation as an investigation. It's a pretext to create a delay so that more accusers can come forward. Both of the accusers who went public after Ford are way less creditable than she is. Just dropping a hint that Anita Hill may be prosecuted for perjury could go a long way toward controlling the onrush of false accusations. PeterKa (talk) 19:15, 28 September 2018 (EDT)
Here is my source: "Woman Who Confronted Flake In Elevator Runs Soros-Funded Organization." It was retweeted by Coulter. PeterKa (talk) 19:34, 28 September 2018 (EDT)
The word is Flake is promised a $2 million a year lobbying job (like Gingrich or Mondale) or a job at CNN (like Clapper) to retire from the Senate (Congresspeople get only $175,000 a year, and have to spend half their time begging for money to get re-elected). Will the FBI question Ford family?

What do they know that we don't? "Christine Blasey Ford’s family has been nearly silent amid outpouring of support." PeterKa (talk) 08:24, 30 September 2018 (EDT)

From sex to beer

In the last few days, we've been hearing a lot less about alleged sexual misconduct and a lot more about Kavanaugh's drinking and temperament. I assume that the manifestly unfair "rape beast" line of attack didn't poll or focus group well. Between Sept. 17 to Oct. 1, Trump's net approval jumped by five points.[2] PeterKa (talk) 09:53, 2 October 2018 (EDT)

Beer smear

Can we move the beer smear as a subsection of the New Yorker article? I'm trying to keep what's known to be investigated by the FBI above the FBI section, and below the FBI section reserved for frivolous claims and those facing prosecution for false statements. RobSDeep Six the Deep State! 11:24, 2 October 2018 (EDT)

Eyes on the money

After his defeat in the 1994 midterms, Bill Clinton shifted from leftism to "triangulation." Today's Dems can't get enough of hyperpartisanship, even after this approach cost them the 2016 elections. What drives this apparently self-defeating strategy? It's the money. Beto is a good example of this approach. Each time he lunges left, he picks up Hollywood money even as he loses votes in Texas. See "The Trailer: Democrats are breaking fundraising records. Republicans blame 'outsiders.'" PeterKa (talk) 19:26, 2 October 2018 (EDT)

Avenatti referral

Do we have any source citations Avenatti & Sweatnik made sworn statements to Committee investigators? A specific date would be helpful. While they can't be charged for false statements to NBC, they will be charged for false depositions to the Committee.

It'll be interesting to follow up on the details. It may another example (as we have in the Carter Page FISA application and Blasey Ford's anonymous charges in WaPo), of a Fake_news#Wrap_up_smear prompting an official government investigation. Jane Doe/Kamala Harris allegation

Even though little was made public at the time, what do editors think of creating a subheading under the Blasey Ford/Feinstein heading, entitled Jane Doe/Kamala Harris allegation, with this content,

Staff members for Sen. Kamala Harris submitted “an undated handwritten letter to committee investigators that her California office had received signed under the alias “Jane Doe from Oceanside, California.” Three days before Kavanaugh’s confirmation vote, Judy Munro-Leighton wrote an email to the committee claiming, “I am Jane Doe from Oceanside CA — Kavanaugh raped me.” [Source: https://www.westernjournal.com/kavanaugh-accuser-admits-made/]

It may be educational given the extensive Explanation of Process section above, in detering future attempts at "piling on" once people see even unsworn statements to Congress may have criminal repercussions.

The only difference between the Blasey Ford/Feinstein allegations and the Jane Doe/Kamala Harris allegations is Harris staff didn't leak it. From the Committee's perspective, it sapped the resources and created as much confusion among members and investigators. I suspect she was unwilling to make sworn statements, and Kamsla Harris was trying to manpulate the process. RobSDeep Six the Deep State! 15:34, 3 November 2018 (EDT)

Comment

I think we have an excellent collaborative effort created in a very short space of time. And the good news is, it's not over with yet. FBI investigations are ongoing, and it appears this time they won't be whitewashed.

Thanks to all who contributed! Good effort! RobSDeep Six the Deep State! 04:32, 7 November 2018 (EST)
