U.S. Govt. Constitution Lecture 1 Homework

Andrew B

1.I read the constitution and something I found surprising about it would be the fact that, it would be possible to merge two states as long as the congress consented it. I found that interesting! Another thing that I learning in the class is that the intro was written by Gouverneur Morris. It is interesting how he just penned that out.

2.Article I- Establishes congress and defines its legislative power. Article II- Establishes executive power (president) and defines his responsibilities/powers. Article III- Establishes judicial powers (courts) and defines responsibilities/powers. Article IV- Defines how individual states work and how states can be admitted to the union. Ensures that the states respect other states laws. Article V- Defines how amendments can be made, ensures slavery will not end until 1808. Article VI- If ratified officials have to swear to adhere to the constitution. Article VII- Defines how the constitution will be ratified. Nine out of thirteen states votes.

3.Article V. Article IV. Article VII.

4.James Madison’s notes (found online at many websites) and constitutioncenter.org are both very usful sources for anyone looking to learn more about the constitution.

5.HONORS: I think that a very important part of the constitution is the very fact that it appoints an executive officer, the system of a four year term was very smart because it keeps an executive officer from being corrupt during his first term the only problem is that in a second term they can do a whole lot of wrong before impeachment seems possible. So a president can set up whatever they want in their first term and be corrupt in their second. I think a better way for this system would be for yearly votes on whether to keep the president or not. And then after four years he is done. He can still run for reelection but each year a vote could determine whether or not he stay. This way the only option a president has is to do what the people want.
