1. The Renaissance took place from 1300 to 1600 A.D. in Florence, Italy.

2. Martin Luther was a controversial figure in the eyes of the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church. Martin Luther translated the Bible from Greek to German in 1522. And then he translated it from Hebrew to German in 1534.

3. Baroque was a seventeenth century art form that was known for being complex and incongruous. It was intended to be part of the counter-reformation by the Catholic Church.

4. Old English was developed by Germanic tribes that settled in England. After the Norman Conquest in A.D. 1066, Latin began to influence the old English language, and it was eventually improved and became Middle English. And from Middle English, the language improved to what it is today.

5. Vietnam earned its independence in A.D. 939, right after the Tang dynasty, of China, collapsed. The Lu dynasty of Vietnam ruled from 1009 to 1225, this is when the current capital of Hanoi was established. When the Mongols attacked, the Vietnamese successfully repelled three attacks.

6. One of the most likely reasons for the Renaissance not taking place in Asia, is because there was no prior form of Christianity in Asia. The Renaissance took place because people began to see the flaws in Catholicism.

2. Good thing. The United States is an almost perfect model for other countries; if the U.S. becomes a negative influence (Barack Obama) then Imperialism should end.

3. The Progressive Movement is a good idea in theory. However, some in government will see progressivism as an excuse to expand government. The only better government is less government.

4. In this picture President McKinley is holding on to a native Cuban. The world is watching to see if he will give Cuba to Spain or if he will keep them an independent country. Giving Cuba back to Spain is the equivalent of throwing a child off a cliff, according to the artist.

1. President Lincolns main goal was to preserve the Union.

2. The purpose of the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments to the Constitution were to make slavery illegal and to protect the rights of African-Americans.

3. Ulysses S Grant. He was a brilliant general and he was a major factor in the North’s victory.

5. Abraham Lincoln thought independently and didn’t worry about what people thought of him.

6. The purpose of this cartoon is to illustrate how unpopular, to some Americans, Lincoln was. Lady Liberty holding the severed slave head represents the American people’s dislike of African Americans. Lady Liberty is kicking Lincoln out of the White House and he is in a disguise so no one recognizes him. And McClellan is walking into the White House to assume the Presidency. This cartoon was probably drawn just before Lincoln’s was elected for his second term.

7. The cartoon is saying that no matter how different or wrong another culture is it is welcome in the United States. Every man has the same opportunities that the other has.
