Progressivism is the term applied to a variety of responses to the economic and social problems rapid industrialization introduced to America. Progressivism began as a social movement and grew into a bunch of dirty hippies. The early progressives rejected Social Darwinism. In other words, they were people who believed that the problems society faced (poverty, violence, greed, racism, class warfare) could best be addressed by providing good education, a safe environment, and an efficient workplace. Progressives lived mainly in the cities, were college educated, and believed that government could be a tool for change. Social reformers, like Jane Addams, and journalists, like Jacob Riis and Ida Tarbel, were powerful voices for progressivism. They concentrated on exposing the evils of corporate greed, combating fear of immigrants, and urging Americans to think hard about what democracy meant. Other local leaders encouraged Americans to register to vote, fight political corruption, and let the voting public decide how issues should best be addressed (the initiative, the referendum, and the recall). On a national level, progressivism gained a strong voice in the White House when Theodore Roosevelt became president in 1901. TR believed that strong corporations were good for America, but he also believed that corporate behavior must be watched to ensure that corporate greed did not get out of hand (trust-busting and federal regulation of business). Progressivism ended with World War I when the horrors of war exposed people's cruelty and many Americans associated President Woodrow Wilson's use of progressive language ("the war to make the world safe for democracy") with the war.

A red giant is an enormous, highly luminous star, typically tens to hundreds the times the diameter of our own sun, that represents the late stages of the stellar evolution of a main sequence star. Typically for stars between 0.5 and 6 solar masses. The greater the mass of the star, the more quickly it will enter the red giant phase of its evolution. Red Giants were made by god so man could look at something if they ever invented the telescope.

The red giant stage begins when a main sequence star exhausts all of the hydrogen fuel used for nuclear fusion in its core. The hydrogen located just outside of the core, however, will not fuse due to the lower temperature of the region. The star will then begin to contract under gravity, and the outer layers of the star will start to collapse. As the shells of hydrogen gas contract towards the core, they heat up, eventually reaching the temperature required to fuse the hydrogen into helium, providing a new source of energy and halting the collapse through a renewal of stellar fusion. As the star has now grown hotter than it was during the star's life during the main sequence, the outer parts of the star begin to swell. Because of the expansion of the outer layers of the star, the energy produced in the core of the star is spread over a vastly larger surface area. This results in a lower surface temperature, which shifts the star's visible output towards the red side of the visual spectrum.

Depending of the mass of the star, there are two different routes the red giant's evolution will take. For those stars that are less then 2.55 solar masses, the core will continue to contract until it becomes degenerate. At this point, the core will not contract any further, but will continue to heat up. As the temperature reaches 108 K, it will become hot enough for the core to begin fusing helium to carbon and to a lesser extent, oxygen. As degenerate matter is an excellent conductor of heat, all the helium will be fused nearly simultaneously in a helium flash. For more massive stars, the 108 K temperature required to fuse helium will happen as the core is still contracting, allowing for a much more fluid fusion of helium, avoiding the flash.

Once the helium begins fusing, the star again contracts and leaves the red giant stage. For stars around the mass of our Sun, insufficient mass exists to fuse oxygen and carbon into heavier elements. Once the star lacks any more helium to fuse, the star will eject its expanded outer layers as a planetary nebula, exposing the core. The star thus becomes a white dwarf, slowly cooling off over time. More massive stars will continue to fuse the carbon and oxygen into heavier elements. Any stars that are 10 solar masses or greater will instead become red supergiants before ending their lives in a supernova explosion.

Low mass red dwarfs will not have sufficient mass to fuse helium and thus never enter a red giant phase, but instead will simply cool over time once all the hydrogen fuel is consumed.

Anonymous is the name given to a online group (described by supporters as hacktivists, opponents as terrorists) who carry out attacks on various websites, usually employing various forms of network abuse, amongst other general Internet activities.

The group gained notoriety in recent years with its participation in Operation Payback, which included a series of actions in defence of whistle-blowing organization Wikileaks and its figurehead Julian Assange, Operation Sony and from Westboro Baptist Church's declaration of war on Anonymous, which they mostly ignored Desu.

History
The use of the 'Anonymous' collective name to describe the source of activities dates to 2003 (it has no official founders or membership so dating it's founding is difficult) on various image boards on the Internet, the most famously attributed of which is 4chan.

In its early days its focus was focused on 'trolling' various websites, usually by including offensive or inappropriate material on the websites of groups with whom they disagree.

In 2008, in response to a Tom Cruise video , Anonymous became more homogeneous in it's opposition to the Church of Scientology . Known as Operation Chanology, it included Denial-of-Service attacks, real life protests and mass publication and spread of information usually withheld by members of the church.

In 2010 it rose to notoriety due to Anonymous' actions against those who opposed copyright violation. Operation Payback was initially about using network abuse in a vain attempt to intimidate large corporations, and later became involved with the support of Wikileaks and Julian Assange Desu.

Beliefs
As Anonymous is a collective, rather than a group, it has no official beliefs and ideals. This has begun to change in last year due to a cell within Anonymous, called AnonOps, carrying out a lot of the operations, but as a collective they are still loosely defined. Many members of anonymous will reject any such group attempting to be more identifiable in the general body.

However, Anonymous, atleast certain segments, is known for it's support of Freedom of Information, Freedom of Speech, Personal Freedom, Transparency within the Government and Universal Access to Human Rights Desu.

Operation Chanology
In 2008, after a video of Tom Cruise talking about Scientology was leaked onto YouTube, Anonymous declared its 'destruction' of the Church of Scientology (CoS). Due to the CoS's belief in suppressing information, suppressing it's members, spreading misinformation and abusing taxation laws to remain tax free.

There was also considerable opposition to the core practise in Scientology of having to hand over a significant fortune to be shown what the Scientology believes, which is strongly opposed by the ideal that 'Knowledge is Free Desu.'

Operation Payback
Operation Payback began in 2010 as a counter to those who opposed Internet Piracy. It began in response to Distributed Denial of Service attacks against Torrent websites, with return DDoS attacks against pro-copyright and anti-piracy companies.

The attacks received from criticism from the Pirate Party UK and the United States Pirate Party due to their support for a democratic opposition.

After Wikileaks released the secret Cables many of those who opposed Wikileaks, or retracted their affiliation due to government pressure, became the next targets. The concept of Freedom of Information was supported by Wikileaks so those who opposed the group became targets, but also those who were pressured into retracting by government forces (the US government was blamed significantly for this) opened up a knowledge of a corruption within these governments, due to their intervention in private business.

These Operation also spun Operation Avenge Assange, an operation against those who targeted and victimised Julian Assange after the cable leaks. Also dongs.

Westboro Baptist Church
On February 16, 2011, the Westboro Baptist Church issued a declaration of war against the group Anonymous. WBC claimed that Anonymous had threatened to start a war with their website and church. Despite this going against both Rule 14 of the Internet (Do not feed the trolls) and the principle belief of Freedom of Speech, a member of Anonymous called Topiary agreed to speak on the David Pakman Show on February 24.

On the show Anonymous explained that it initially had no interest in WBC because it considered them unimportant and trolls but after being harassed on the show the group replaced their sites with a message explaining their lack of interest Desu.

Desu
Moshi Moshi Anon Desu!

Anonymous and the Arab Spring
Because of their belief in values as freedom and democracy, Anonymous members are generally on the side of the people opposing dictators.
During the Arab Spring, they initiated 2 operations: Operation Egypt and Operation Tunisia which consisted in series of attacks on governmental websites. They also lead some actions against Lybia and recently against the Syrian Defense Ministry.

Symbols
In 2009, Anonymous adopted the motto "We are Anonymous. We are Legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. Expect us". Contrary to what the bible teach, the Anonymous reject the concept of forgiveness.

In public, members of Anonymous usually wear the Guy Fawkes masks, made famous by the comic and movie V for Vendetta.

Capitalism is a free market economic system based on private ownership and entrepreneurship. The investment of capital, and production, distribution, income, and prices are determined not by government (as in socialism) but through the operation of a competitive market where decisions are voluntary and private rather than regulated and mandated by government (see law of supply and demand).

Overview
One self-regulating feature of capitalism is competition, which helps maintain fair market value for goods and services. However, unrestrained or pure capitalism may sometimes create a positive feedback loop in which a small number of individual accumulations of capital grow ever larger, eventually becoming so few as to limit effective competition, thus ceasing to strictly be free-market capitalism. In this regard, pure capitalism is unstable. Modern political systems have developed regulation mechanisms in an attempt to render capitalism more stable, including anti-trust regulation, trade tariffs, etc.

Since the fall of communism, and the advent of information technology, capitalism is becoming increasingly widespread.

Adam Smith described the operation of capital accumulation through the productive powers of labor as such,

Smith goes on to describe how the productive powers of labor employed by the owner of a capital allow laborers to reproduce with a profit the value of their maintenance, over and above their own consumption, which then allows for an additional set of hands to be employed. Smith observes labor is the original purchase price for all the wealth of the world,

Real wealth consists not in money, but in the things money will exchange for,

Since wealth does not consist in money, gold, or silver, and labor is the original purchase price, Smith explains how the capitalist system is then put into motion, complete with natural incentives, only Smith does not use the word "capital" here to describe what is needed. Smith explains how a "store of goods", or "stock sufficient to maintain" the original capitalist entrepreneur is necessary;

The division of labor is the necessary condition that gives rise to the productive powers of labor that allows for large scale economic growth. By "division of labor", Smith is referring to "specialization of labor", where each worker acquires specific knowledge to apply to a specific task.
{{Cquote|In that rude state of society in which there is no division of labour, in which exchanges are seldom made, and in which every man provides everything for himself, it is not necessary that any stock should be accumulated or stored up beforehand in order to carry on the business of the society. Every man endeavours to supply by his own industry his own occasional wants as they occur. When he is hungry, he goes to the forest to hunt; when his coat is worn out, he clothes himself with the skin of the first large animal he kills: and when his hut begins to go to ruin, he repairs it, as well as he can, with the trees and the turf that are nearest it.

But when the division of labour has once been thoroughly introduced, the produce of a man's own labour can supply but a very small part of his occasional wants. The far greater part of them are supplied by the produce of other men's labour, which he purchases with the produce, or, what is the same thing, with the price of the produce of his own. But this purchase cannot be made till such time as the produce of his own labour has not only been completed, but sold. A stock of goods of different kinds, therefore, must be stored up somewhere sufficient to maintain him, and to supply him with the materials and tools of his work till such time, at least, as both these events can be brought about.

As the accumulation of stock must, in the nature of things, be previous to the division of labour, ...in order to give constant employment to an equal number of workmen, an equal stock of provisions, and a greater stock of materials and tools than what would have been necessary in a ruder state of things, must be accumulated beforehand. }}

Historically, capitalism has fostered freedom and an increase in the standard of living and human rights, and vice versa. Societies that have tried non-capitalist systems inevitably fall into tyranny.

For example, Venezuela, while not a perfect country before Hugo Chavez, had freedom and wealth unprecedented in its history. As Chavez has nationalized industries, he has also centralized power for himself, becoming a dictator.

Capitalist societies also generally have higher standards of living compared to their non-capitalist counterparts in terms of per capita GDP, education, healthcare, and poverty rates. China, for instance, has been growing extremely prosperous since it began opening its economy to capitalism in the 1980s.

However, capitalist societies also have seen progressively larger gaps between the upper and middle classes develop, such as the United States where the top twenty percent owned eighty-seven percent of the financial wealth and eighty percent of the total wealth, despite having the largest GDP in the world.

Quotes
“Historical evidence speaks with a single voice on the relation between political freedom and a free market. I know of no example in time or place of a society that has been marked by a large measure of political freedom, and that has not also used something comparable to a free market to organize the bulk of economic activity.”

"Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself."
--Milton Friedman, Capitalism and Freedom, 1962.

"If an exchange between two parties is voluntary, it will not take place unless both believe they will benefit from it. Most economic fallacies derive from the neglect of this simple insight, from the tendency to assume that there is a fixed pie, that one party can gain only at the expense of another."

--Milton Friedman, Free to Choose

“Capitalism is essentially the economic system of poor people. That’s what allowed the people that came from humble origins of the world to have economic rights the way only nobility and the high bourgeoisie had it before. So capitalism is essentially a tool for poor people to prosper.”

--Hernando de Soto, PBS Interview, March 30-31, 2001

"The only real cure for poverty is production". Henry Hazlitt, from Man vs. the Welfare State.

"The first condition for the establishment of perpetual peace is the general adoption of the principles of laissez-faire capitalism."

--Ludwig von Mises, The Ultimate Foundation of Economic Science

"There are two methods, or means, and only two, whereby man's needs and desires can be satisfied. One is the production and exchange of wealth; this is the economic means. The other is the uncompensated appropriation of wealth produced by others; this is the political means."

-- Albert Jay Nock, Our enemy, the State

"Businessmen are the symbol of a free society — the symbol of America."
Newton "Newt" Gingrich (born Harrisburg, Pa., June 17, 1943) served as Speaker of the House from 1995 until 1999, preceding J. Dennis Hastert and succeeding Thomas Foley. He is widely considered the mastermind of the 1994 Republican Revolution and "Contract with America" that led the Republican Party to capture the majority in the U.S. House of Representatives for the first time since 1954. He was considered the chief Republican opposition to President Bill Clinton in the 1990's.

Popular with conservatives, Gingrich is a television commentator and the author of nineteen books including 11 fiction and non-fiction New York Times best-sellers.

Under his leadership, Congress passed welfare reform, passed the first balanced budget in a generation, and passed the first tax cut in sixteen years. In addition, the Congress restored funding to strengthen defense and intelligence capabilities, an action later lauded by the bipartisan 9/11 Commission.

Gingrich's congressional career ended in 1999 when he resigned from Congress after poor showings from Republicans in the midterm elections and due to being investigated by the House ethics panel. Claims were made that Gingrich had used a political consultant in the development of the GOP platform contrary to House Ethics Rules. Despite his claim of no wrongdoing, a $300,000 fine was imposed by the panel. The final three of the charges were dismissed in October 1998.

Gingrich is currently a candidate for the Republican nomination for the 2012 U.S. Presidential election.
Speakership
*All ten items in the Contract With America were brought to a vote in the U.S. House in the first 100 days (the promise was to bring them to a vote). Nine of the ten items passed the House. The sole exception was term limits which received a plurality but required a two-thirds majority as a Constitutional Amendment.
*Committee Chairmen were term-limited as was the Speakership.
*The Legislative branch was cut including the Speaker's office. Also reduced were committee sizes. Unnecessary perks like the House barbershop, shoeshine and ice service were eliminated.
*The Congress was forced to live under the same laws as the rest of the land - OSHA, disabilities, workplace laws, members, staff etc.
*A big six accounting firm audited the U.S. House's finances for the first time in history.
*The Budget was balanced for the first time in a generation. When Time Magazine named Gingrich their Man of the Year in 1995, they said that because of Newt a balanced budget was no longer a question of if, but when.
*Tax rates were cut for the first time in 17 years. Included were a lowering of the capital gains tax rate, a $500 per child tax credit and new tax credits for tuition to college and voc-tech schools. The cap gains tax actually ended being scored as a revenue increase, a shift in tax policy debate due to Gingrich's success.
*Military spending increased for the first time in over 10 years including funding for a national missile defense.
*The line-item veto passed and was signed into law.
*Six of the bills were signed into law by the President. (In 1996, President Clinton pointed to 13 separate reforms that were contained within the Contract with America at the Democratic National Convention.)
*More women were appointed to leadership positions in the House than anytime in history.
*Increased funding for the Violence Against Women Act by 700%.
*Megan's Law was passed.

Writings
As an author, Gingrich has published nine books including the best sellers, Contract with America and To Renew America and his most recent book, Winning the Future: A 21st Century Contract with America. In June 2005, Never Call Retreat concluded Newt's series of active history studies in the lessons of warfare based on a fictional account of the Battle of Gettysburg and its aftermath. And in Saving Lives & Saving Money, Gingrich demonstrates how to transform health and healthcare into a 21st century system.
Personal Life
Gingrich was born into a single-parent household with his mother, after his biological father abandoned the family. Robert Gingrich, a retired army officer, married Gingrich's mother and adopted him. He has been married three times. His first wife, Jackie Battley, was his geometry teacher while he was in high school. They began their relationship when he was 16 years old, and married in 1962 after he graduated. The couple had two daughters, and divorced in 1981. Liberal and mainstream media sources have perpetuated a myth for decades Jackie was served with divorce papers "on her deatbed," however, she is very much alive. Only in December, 2011, did FactCheck.org research and correct some of the smears.

Gingrich married Ginther in 1981. The couple separated in 1988, reconciled in 1994, and later divorced in 1999. In response to inquiries Gingrich publicly admitted to having an extra-marital relationship. "The honest answer is yes," Gingrich said in an interview with Focus on the Family founder James Dobson. "There are times that I have fallen short of my own standards. There's certainly times when I've fallen short of God's standards." Gingrich contrasted owning up to his shortcomings with President Clinton's perjury and criminal offenses, "The President of the United States got in trouble for committing a felony in front of a sitting federal judge," the former Georgia congressman said of Clinton's 1998 House impeachment on perjury and obstruction of justice charges. "I drew a line in my mind that said, 'Even though I run the risk of being deeply embarrassed, and even though at a purely personal level I am not rendering judgment on another human being, as a leader of the government trying to uphold the rule of law, I have no choice except to move forward and say that you cannot accept ... perjury in your highest officials."

Charitable work
Gingrich is co-founder along with his wife Callista, of the Gingrich Foundation, a charitable nonprofit corporation. Among its charitable contributions, the Gingrich Foundation has established the Newt and Callista Gingrich Scholarship at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. Other grants have been awarded to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, American Museum of Natural History, Arthritis Foundation, Alzheimer’s Association, Learning Makes a Difference Foundation, Autism Society, Catholic Charities USA, American Heart Association, Washington National Opera, Wolf Trap Foundation, Atlanta Ballet, City of Fairfax Band, Mount Vernon Ladies Association, Museum of the Rockies, Trust for Public Land, and the Girl Scouts of the USA.

Gingrich serves as a Board Member of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and has received the highest non-medical award the American Diabetes Association. In 1995 he was named Citizen of the Year by the March of Dimes.

Death
On January 28th, Newt Gingrich was murdered by white supremisists. Bystanders recall his last words were "Goodnight Sweet Prince", though others refute this, and say it was "Rosebud". The murderers in question are still missing.
