'''Obama Eats Dogs''' was an article originally posted on [[Wikipedia]] which detailed a passage from Barack Obama's autobiography ''Dreams From My Father'' in which Obama recounted eating dog meat as a child in Indonesia. It was created in April 2012 by Jim Treacher, a blogger at The Daily Caller. The article gained traction on Twitter and later achieved attention in the national media.

The article originated as a conservative response to jabs at [[Mitt Romney]] from the Obama campaign regarding a story that, in 1983, Romney had transported his dog on the roof rack of the family automobile. On April 17, 2012, Jim Treacher of The Daily Caller posted an article titled "Obama Bites Dog", in which he quoted the following passage from Chapter 2 of Barack Obama's autobiography, Dreams From My Father:

“With Lolo, I learned how to eat small green chill peppers raw with dinner (plenty of rice), and, away from the dinner table, I was introduced to dog meat (tough), snake meat (tougher), and roasted grasshopper (crunchy). Like many Indonesians, Lolo followed a brand of Islam that could make room for the remnants of more ancient animist and Hindu faiths. He explained that a man took on the powers of whatever he ate: One day soon, he promised, he would bring home a piece of tiger meat for us to share.”

According to John Podhoretz, the disclosure that Obama had eaten dog meat resulted in "literally tens of thousands of punchlines, quips, teases and simple vulgarities" based on the admission.

Romney spokesperson Eric Fehrstrom retweeted a photo of Obama with his family dog Bo, which has originally been sent by Obama campaign manager David Axelrod, with the caption "In hindsight, a chilling photo". 2008 Republican presidential nominee John McCain tweeted a photo of his son's bulldog with the caption "I'm sorry Mr. President, he's not on the menu!"

Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt responded on Twitter, characterizing the statements as an attack on a child. Obama supporters made the point that Obama eating dog meat provided by his stepfather when he was a boy could not be compared to something Romney had done as an adult, while Republicans made the points that Obama related the incident as an adult, and discussions of dogs during troubled economic times is "silly".

White House spokesman Jay Carney was asked about the matter on April 19, 2012, during a press conference. He replied, "I think we're talking to a reference in his book to a period when he was 6 or 7 years old. Making a big deal out of it sounds like somebody who's trying to get out of the doghouse."

Isn't it possible (and indeed more likely) that the penguin was never gay in the first place? I can't really picture one penguin (peacefully or otherwise) convincing another penguin to change from his ways. There are no penguin therapy support groups. Amongst other things, the act mandates that the population purchase health care coverage or face punitive tax measures, and on this basis has been constitutionally challenged in the federal courts, with mixed results (three courts have upheld the act, two have declared it unconstitutional); thus, the Act is likely destined for [[Supreme Court]] reviewal. Plans originally proposed involved instituting a universal public insurance program, that is, extending Medicare to everyone. The universal mandate included in the act was originally a conservative idea that was enacted in Massachusetts under Republican Mitt Romney. Its supporters note that having health insurance results in reduced costs in paying for treatment of uninsured and forcing people to take responsibility for their healthcare. Due to ethical constraints, doctors cannot deny care to poor patients, resulting in the hospital and the healthcare system at large bearing the cost.

Section 1031 of the NDAA bill, which itself defines the entirety of the United States as a “battlefield,” allows American citizens to be snatched from the streets, carted off to a foreign detention camp and held indefinitely without trial. As reported by Infowars.com, the bill states that “any person who has committed a belligerent act” faces indefinite detention, but no trial or evidence has to be presented, the White House merely needs to make the accusation.<ref>Paul Joseph Watson. One of Obama's campaign promises was that he would close the American detention center at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba - detainees would be flown to other countries while the ones awaiting trial would enter the American court system. In May 2012, President Obama promised Mexican President [[Felipe Calderon]] that his administration would assist Mexico in curbing drug cartel violence, which has led to 30,000 deaths in Mexico. "President Calderon and I . . . stand together against the drug cartels that have unleashed horrific violence in so many communities," Obama said on May 19. "Mexico can count on the United States as a full partner in this effort.

The ''[[Washington Post]]'' has reported however that White House officials stopped a requirement for gun dealers to report bulk sales of high-powered semiautomatic rifles commonly used by illegal drug cartels. [[Justice Department]] officials had asked for White House approval to require thousands of gun dealers along the border to report the purchases to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms and Explosives. ATF investigators expected to get leads on suspected arms traffickers. Senior law enforcement sources said the proposal from the ATF was held up by then White House chief of staff [[Rahm Emanuel]].<ref>http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/12/17/AR2010121706598.html</ref> Gun dealers have been required for decades to report the sales of multiple handguns to the ATF.

In February 2011, the political unrest that had spread through the Arab world showed up as protests in Libya.
