The Great Global Warming Swindle first broadcast in March 2007, is a science documentary film directed by Martin Durkin for the United Kingdom's Channel Four. This is not the first science documentary the filmmakers made. It says on their website "The thing they found most shocking when they started to make this one, was the weakness of the case for man made global warming, and the quantity and quality of the evidence which flatly contradicts it."

Summary
----

This science documentary challenges the Global Warming orthodoxy of 'consensus', used to discount futher evidence. The major theme exposes scientists for their alarmist absurbity. The Sun and the reluctance of some climate scientists to consider its role. Earth’s temperature record and when to start the data collection. Ice-core data of CO2 climate analysis. IPCC and concensus of world scientists.

The science
----

The way science functions in the real world is explained. The political bias of scientists, censorship within the scientific community, the failure of the peer review process and inflated conclusions from uncertain data. "The most highly qualified and respected scientists can be blind to obvious deficiencies in a theory, and will be dismissive of evidence when it undermines what they want to believe." Scientists are invoking the threat of climatic disaster to drive an anti-capitalist agenda.

Positive reception
----

BBC Channel Four defended airing the film saying it was to show that the debate on climate change is not settled

The filmmakers have received thousands of emails from scientists and others expressing their support and encouragement. After the legal finding, the filmmakers were allowed to distribute their documentary by DVD.

Negative reception
----

Complaints came from the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the former British government chief scientific adviser Sir David King, and MIT oceanographer Prof. Carl Wunsch. Also, Ofcom noted it received 265 complaints that the film had been factually misleading, one-sided, had omitted alternative views and broke Britain's broadcasting code.

Robert Watson, a former chairman of the IPCC was disappointed that the film had not been found to mislead viewers.

Filmmakers statements
----

“Everywhere you are told that man-made climate change is proved beyond doubt,” “But you are being told lies.”
“This is a story of how a theory about climate turned into a political ideology ... it is the story of the distortion of a whole area of science.”
“as the frenzy over man-made global warming grows shriller, many senior scientists say the actual scientific basis for the theory is crumbling.”

Issues surrounding the film
----

Britain’s independent media regulator, Ofcom has ruled that a documentary skeptical of global warming claims broke some broadcasting rules, but did not mislead or cause harm.

Led Zeppelin were a British rock group. The members of the band were Robert Plant (vocals), Jimmy Page (guitar), John Paul Jones (bass guitar and keyboards) and John Bonham (drums).

The band was formed by Jimmy Page in 1968 after his previous band, The Yardbirds, split up with outstanding contractual obligations to play a number of concerts. They were notoriously private and spurned the publicity machine usually favored by groups. In their home country, the UK, they refused to release singles to promote their albums and rarely made television appearances (which were curtailed after the release of the first album), preferring instead to tour extensively.

Led Zeppelin's eponymous first album (1969) drew heavily on their blues background and drew critical acclaim.

Their second album, simply called Led Zeppelin II (1969), placed the band firmly in the vanguard of the heavy rock movement and featured a track which became their first US Number 1, "Whole Lotta Love".

The third album, Led Zeppelin III (1970), featured a more acoustic sound and drew on folk influences, but still had room for hard rock in "Immigrant Song" and the blues in "Since I've Been Loving You".

Their fourth album (1971) which was untitled and did not feature the band on the cover, became known as Led Zeppelin IV or Four Symbols (the "symbols" being four runic symbols on the inside cover, one associated with each member of the band). This album launched Led Zeppelin into a new level as the track "Stairway to Heaven" became the most requested track on US radio ever.

Houses of the Holy (1973) broadened the scope of the band even further with the reggae-influenced "D'Yer Mak'er" and the mysterious , lingering "No Quarter".

After the release of Houses of the Holy the band's next project was the mostly live concert film, The Song remains the Same, named after a track on that album and featuring footage of the Madison Square Garden concerts from their 1973 tour.

Physical Graffiti (1975) was a double album that covered many themes and included "Kashmir". It was followed by Presence (1976), their only album not to feature any keyboard. Their final album, In Through the Out Door, was released in 1979.

In 1979 Led Zeppelin played their two largest concerts, in front of 400,000 people at the Knebworth Festival. Parts of the first Knebworth concert later featured on the Led Zeppelin DVD released in 2002, which also included footage from a show at the Royal Albert Hall in London from 1970 and shows at Madison Square Garden and Earls Court from 1973 and 1975 respectively.

After playing a short European tour in the summer of 1980, the band began preparing for a longer North American tour when John Bonham suddenly died due to overconsumption of alcohol. The band subsequently broke up, as Plant, Page, and Jones each pursued solo careers to varying degrees of success. The three surviving members would reunite in 1985 for the Live Aid concert, in 1988 for the Atlantic Records 40th Anniversary concert, and in 1995 for their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Page and Plant also reunited (without Jones) to record an album covering Led Zeppelin songs, and an album of originals.

The band reformed (with Bonham's son Jason replacing his father on drums) in 2007 to perform at the Ahmet Ertegun Tribute Concert at the O2 Arena in London. Tickets were priced at £125 ($250) and were alloted via a lottery system. Approximately 1 million people applied to see the band perform in the 20,000 capacity venue. There is currently speculation (fueled partly by comments made by Page and Jason Bonham) that the band may embark on a tour after Plant has completed his current touring schedule with American bluegrass musician Alison Krauss in support of their album Raising Sand (2007). Further speculation was fueled when Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones appeared on stage during the encore of a Foo Fighters gig at Wembley Stadium, London, to play Zeppelin classic Rock and Roll.

Jethro Tull is a British rock band often classified as progressive rock, although they were heavily influenced by blues and folk music. Their lead singer, Ian Anderson, is well-known for playing the flute and for his quirky stage-presence. Among their most famous albums are Aqualung (1971), Thick as a Brick (1972), Songs from the Wood (1977) and the Grammy Award-winning Crest of a Knave (1987). They named themselves after a British Agriculturist who invented seed drill. They are known for having undergone numerous changes of line-up: at a 2008 gig at the Royal Festival Hall in London, Anderson drew attention to "bass-player number eight", David Goodier.

In Spring 2008, the band embarked on a European tour in celebration of the 40th anniversary of their debut album, This Was. The set list of the tour was drawn predominantly from the band's first four albums (This Was, Stand Up, Benefit and Aqualung), and shows featured numerous guest appearances, including appearances by Greg Lake of Emerson, Lake and Palmer, and former Tull drummer Barrie Barlow.

Trivia
Jethro Tull beat Metallica to win the first Grammy Award for Heavy Metal Performance in 1989, causing a great deal of controversy, as many did not consider them to be a heavy metal band. The band did not show up to collect their award, but released a full-page newspaper advertisement the next day stating that "The flute is a heavy metal instrument."fact

Johann Sebastian Bach (March 21, 1685 - July 28, 1750) was a German composer and organist active in the late Baroque era who has been recognized as one of greatest composers of the Western classical music tradition, often called the "master of masters."

By age 18, Bach was a church organist, and he stated his goal as composer and performer of music as follows:

:"The aim and final end of all music should be none other than the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul. If heed is not paid to this, it is not true music but a diabolical bawling and twanging."

Biography
Bach came from an extremely musical family, which had been supported by local governments and churches throughout Germany for many years. After graduating from the St. Michael's School in Luneburg, he became a court musician in Weimar, where his fame as a keyboardist began to spread. Later in the year, Bach became the organist at St. Boniface's Church in Arnstadt with help from some family connections, where he often clashed with authorities over the quality of the choir and a long, unauthorized leave of absence where he visited the great composer Buxtehude, who became an important musical influence. After leaving the church and serving as the Kapellmeister and court organist in various cities, Bach ended up in Leipzig in 1723, where he spent the rest of his life.

Although Bach was always famous as an organist and his works have constantly been viewed as pedagogically important, his reputation among the general public was fairly low until several of his works were revived by the composer Felix Mendelssohn, most importantly an 1829 performance of the St. Matthew Passion.

Bach had several children who became famous composers in their own right, such as Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, Carl Phillipp Emmanuel Bach, and Johann Christian Bach.

Music
Bach was a devout Lutheran, and much of his music was religious in nature. Bach attributed the beauty of his music to God, by writing the letters "S.D.G." or "Soli Deo Gloria" in many of his scores. He is well-known for his complete mastery of counterpoint, as well as his use of styles from many different regions of Europe. He also used the cruciform B-A-C-H motif in his work as a sign of devotion to Christ, although future composers used it to pay homage to their great predecessor.

Important works include:
* The Mass in B Minor
* The St. Matthew Passion
* The St. John Passion
* The Christmas Oratorio (6 related cantatas)
* The 6 Brandenburg Concerti
* The Musical Offering
* The Art of Fugue
* The Well-Tempered Clavier (2 collections, each containing 24 preludes and fugues in all the major and minor keys)
* The 6 English Suites for keyboard
* The 6 French Suites for keyboard
* The 6 Partitas for keyboard
* many choral preludes, toccatas, toccatas and fugues, fugues, and other works for organ, including the famous Passacaglia and Fugue in C Minor and the Toccata and Fugue in D Minor
* The 4 Orchestral Suites
* The Goldberg Variations for keyboard
* The 12 2-part Inventions and 12 3-part Sinfonias for keyboard
* several hundred sacred and secular cantatas
* The 6 suites for unaccompanied cello

Some of his most famous pieces are drawn from the cantatas, including:
* Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring
* Sheep may Safely Graze

Bach also had a great influence on composers who followed him. Composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, and Mendelssohn began using more contrapuntal elements in their works as a result of his influence. In addition, Chopin's Preludes Op. 28 and Shostakovich's Preludes and Fugues Op. 87 are based explicitly on the Well-Tempered Clavier. Other works that play explicit homage to Bach include Beethoven's Diabelli Variations and Liszt's Prelude and Fugue on B-A-C-H.

Important interpreters of Bach's works include:
* Glenn Gould
* Wanda Landowska
* Rosalyn Tureck
* Angela Hewitt
* Pablo Casals
* Mark Steinbach

There have also been many "modernizations" of Bach's music by artists as varied as Wendy Carlos and Jethro Tull.

<!--Uh-oh, both the old and newer articles I was hoping to merge here seem to have a lot of questionable content, no time to sort it out now.-- dpbsmith --->
<!--A start. Everything that is NOT commented out is something I've made at least a cursory check on. --dpbsmith --->
<!--
A master of polyphony, much of his music was religious in content, adhering, more specifically, to the Protestant Christian faith. Some of his works include the Mass in B-minor, the St. Matthew Passion, the Brandenburg concertos, the Well-Tempered Clavier A humble family man and God-fearing citizen of Weimer, --->
<!--Prolific both in terms of his musical output and his offspring, Bach wrote more than three thousand opus numbers (half of which survive), and had an estimated two dozen children.--->
<!-- Uh-oh, deferring merge, too much seems questionable here, no time to sort it out now.
Johann Sebastian Bach was a Baroque composer of Classical Music and pianist. He was well-known for his mastery of counterpoint, renowned as an organist and harpsichordist, and even gave his approval to an early model of the piano. Some of his most famous works are:
* The "Passion According to St. Matthew,"
* "Jesus, Meine Freude" (Jesus, My Joy!)
* The Brandenburg concertos
* The Well-Tempered Clavier
* The St. Mark Passion
* A Mass in C Minor
* The Diabelli Variations

He often used the cruciform B-A-C-H motif in his works.
--->
<!--Not the Diabelli Variations, that's for sure...--->

Paleoconservatism is a movement that originated in the United States, by Classical Conservatives of the Old Right, that opposed the neoconservative movement. The term has since then become popular worldwide, today used to describe classical conservatives throughout the Western world.

Paleoconservatives by region
Paleoconservatives outside the United States generally agree on social and economic issues with their American counterparts, but paleoconservatism emphisize different political goals in the different regions of the world.

United States
For paleoconservative beliefs held in the United States and throughout the world in general, see paleoconservative.

Canada
Canadian paleoconservatives put strong emphisis on their opposition to British imperialism and desires Canada to become a republic. They also support the preservation of Quebec's French Culture as well as their right to seccede.

Latin America
Paleos in Latin America are generally traditionalist Cathlics and stress their religious heritage. They strongly oppose the common corruption and the growth of socialism in Latin American politics. They also strongly oppose the intermarriage and miscegenation of their European culture with the Native Americans. Many have supported missionary projects to their homelands of Spain and Portugal.

Europe
European paleos desire the return of Europe to its Christian tradition and values. It strongly opposes the immigration and integration of non-Westerners, especially North African and Arab Muslims, into Europe. Paleos generally oppose the existence European Union and especially the formation of one European Government, as they see it as a threat to the perserverence of the different ethnic cultures in Europe.

Australasia
Paleos in Australia and New Zealand generally oppose mass immigration from Asian, and see Asians in Australia as a threat to their culture, economic and political power. They also seek to preserve their own European heritage, along with that of the indegenous Maori and Aborigines. Simmilar to that of Canadian paleoconservatism, Australasian paleos also seek independence from Great Britain.

South Africa
The Boers of South Africa hold paleoconservative views. Boer paleoconservatism strongly emphisizes Ethnic Nationalism, Republicanism, Calvinism and a non-intervensionist foreign policy, as well as strong opposition to British imperialism, communism and all forms of liberalism.
Side A begins with two sketches, including some characters that are less than reputable (Aqualung and Cross Eyed Mary). Then, it includes two autobiographical tracks, both written by Ian Anderson. They are about visiting his father when he was chronically ill.

Side B is about being "Pro-God, Anti-Church". This is because, as it states many times on side B, having an organized religion can restrict somebody to worshipping God in a certain way, thereby not enhancing it.

Cover
The cover depicts the title character, Aqualung, standing and eying something. The back cover shows Aqualung sitting on a corner. It was drawn by Burt Silverman. Although Silverman says that it was inspired by Anderson, Anderson denies this.
Track Breakdown
Side A
Aqualung
This is the first song on the album, coming before "Cross-Eyed Mary". The song is about a pervert named Aqualung who ma********s to little girls (Spitting out pieces of his broken luck.). Aqaulung is probably a homless person because he is not dressed up in great clothes (Snot running down his nose --/Greasy fingers smearing shabby clothes.). Aqualung hangs out at the park to watch the little girls play. He is very paranoid about the police coming (Aqualung my friend --/Don't you start away uneasy/You poor old sod, you see, it's only me.).
Cross-Eyed Mary
This is the second song on the album, following "Aqualung" and coming before "Cheap Day Return". The song first starts out with a scene of a homless man who would do anything to get back at the rich people ignoring him (And who would steal the candy/From a laughing baby's mouth/If he could take it from the money man.). Then, the song goes to Mary, who is a rich girl (Dines in Hampstead village//On expense accounted gruel). In this song, whilst out at the playground, she notices Aqualung, who she gives money to. She takes from her rich house and gives to the poor (She's the Robin Hood of Highgate --/Helps the poor man get along.).
Cheap Day Return
This is the third track on the album, after "Cross-Eyed Mary" and before "Mother Goose". This song is aqustic, only feturing the aqustic guitar. This song is about Ian Anderson visiting his chronically ill father (And you sadly wonder/Does the nurse treat your old man/The way she should.).
Mother Goose
This is the fourth song on the album, coming after "Cheap Day Return" and before "Wond'ring Aloud". This track does not really have any connection to the Mother Goose of children's stories. This song is about a person that goes to a fair and sees many things. This song is also very aqustic.
Wond'ring Aloud
This is the fifth song on the album, coming after "Mother Goose" and before "Up To Me". This song is another aqustic song. This song is about a couple having sex ("As we start both our hearts beating life/Into each other."). Then, it goes on to states that the only way that you can become better is by giving things up.
Up To Me
This is the sixth song on the album, coming before "My God" and after "Wond'ring Aloud". Also, it is the last song on Side A of the album. This song is about a guy that makes choices and states that they were up to him and he did not have to do it. For instance, he leaves his date at a bar ("Take you to the cinema/And leave you in a wimpy bar --/You tell me that weve gone to far --/Come running up to me."). He also talks about breaking his cousins glasses at a party and leaving him to put them back together.
Side B
My God
This is the first song on Side B, coming before "Hymn 43" and after "Up To Me". The song first states that people have minipulated God for their purposes ("Locked him in his golden cage./Made him bend to your religion --"). Then, it goes on to state the atheist point of view ("He is the God of nothing --/If thats all that you can see."), and the Christian point of view ("You are the God of everything --/Hes inside you and me."). It then says that people should lean on God gently, "And dont call on him to save you/From your social graces/And the sins you used to waive." Graces, in this sense, refers to charities, and most likely means that because throughout history, the church has generally helped the rich, the church is only doing the charities to make them look good. The sins that were waved refer to during the Protestant Reformation, when people would pay the church indulgences to have their sins forgiven. It then says that the church is wrapped in the chains of history, meaning that it cannot be forgotten just because it was the church doing it, showing it's also "earthly presence".
Hymn 43
This is the eighth song on the album, coming before "Slipstream" and after "My God". The first two lines of the song, "Oh father high in heaven -- smile down upon your son/whose busy with his money games -- his women and his gun." These lines probabily refer to how most conservatives (eg. Rupert Murdock) are exteremly rich ("Money games"). The woman is probabily refering to how he is busy having sex with his woman. And woman, especially at that time, were housewives. The gun refers to the common conservative belief that everyone should be able to own a gun. This is about conservatives because conservatism is conseidered to be the "moral party" and therefore would speak on behalf of Jesus Christ.

The "unsung western hero" in the next verse refers to the people that first came to America and would use Native American slave labor, and would kill them. The justification behind doing that was that they could introduce the Natives to Christianity. The part about going to Hollywood "To set the white man free" probabily refers to the movie The Birth Of A Nation. This film is considered to be the first Hollywood blockbuster, and glorifies the Ku Klux Klan, as saviors from the black people that were (in the film), taking over the world and oppressing white people. In the film, the Ku Klux Klan have crosses on their uniforms.

The chorus "warns" Jesus to save himself "from the gory glory seekers who use His name in death." This refers to the many religious battles fought in Jesus' name. The line "His cross was rather bloody" probabily refers to the amount of death that has been caused in his name and therefore, make his cross bloody.
Slipstream
This is the ninth song on the album, coming before "Locomotive Breath" and after "Hymn 43". This is an acustic song on the album about the rich. It paints a scene about a rich man in an eloquent ship. He is pressing "on God's waiter" his "last dime". The man gets out of the boat without having to do anything.
Locomotive Breath
This is the tenth song on the album, coming before "Wind-Up" and after "Slipsteam". It is about a man who is just going die and has nothing to do besides that ("runs the all-time loser,/headlong to his death."). Because the man is so boring, "He sees his children jumping off/at the stations -- one by one.", which probabily means that they don't visit him that much. His wife is sleeping around with other men ("His woman and his best friend --/in bed and having fun."). The man is trying to escape by crawling on his hands and knees, but he cannot. The man "Catches angels as they fall.", which probabily means that he is a very religious person and knows a lot of the angels. Towards the end of the song, the man takes a bible and opens it to page one, probabily implying that he is always reading the Bible and does not have enough time for anything else.
Wind-Up
This is the 11th song on the album, as well as the last song on Side B and the last song on the album. It comes after "Locomotive Breath". The song is about the singer when he is younger. He goes to school and is tought "how not to play the game". He then, prays to God, and God says that he's not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays. Then, he says that they could "excomunicate" him on his "way to Sunday school", implying that they would just assume keep him out for saying what is agianst the church.

Reception
The album was 7th in Billboard Music Charts' North America.
The album was 4th in the UK Charts.
The song "Hymn 43" was 91st on Billboards Pop Singles chart.
The album was ranked 337th on Rolling Stones top 500 albums of all time.
This is Jethro Tull's most popular album.

Quadraphonic
This was one of two Jethro Tull albums released using quadraphonic sound (the other is War Child). One difference between the actual album and between the quadraphonic version was that the song "Wind Up" was preformed in a higher key (this version is included in the re-release). Also, the song "Aqualung" has two riffs at the begining of it instead of just one in the quadraphonic version.

Jethro Tull is a British rock band often classified as progressive rock, although they were heavily influenced by blues and folk music. Their lead singer, Ian Anderson, is well-known for playing the flute and for his quirky stage-presence. Their most famous album is Aqualung (1971).

Goodness... This article is remarkably pro-AWB - an organisation which, in the words of the author of the article, "demands the maintenance of the division of White and non-White people". PeteSC 11:05, 5 June 2008 (EDT)
Please attempt to justify your statement instead of just saying "It's pro-AWB". Cite something please.
Also the AWB amended its program of principles in 1988, omitting most references to race, as the emphasis of the group shifted on to culture.

Also the anti-Zionist statements present in the first program of principles were absent in the second.

Alfred123 21:20, 5 June 2008 (EDT)

Your implied support for the AWB stems partly from the subtle use of certain words and/or phrases to describe their opponents, whom you accuse of "demonising the movement's aims" (we all know the connotations of "demonisation" - that the "victim" is innocent) and subjecting the AWB to an " international media hate campaign" (placing the "bad guy" label squarely on the AWB's opponents).

The occasional violence of the opponents of the AWB is described as "cold-blooded", but the frequently mentioned and large-scale violence of the AWB (which, you claim, has been with the purpose of "defending" whites) passes without moral condemnation.

You accuse anti-AWB journalists of libel for using the phrase "neo-nazi" (although if you substitute the word "black" for the word "Jew" in early Nazi ideology I think you would have trouble telling the difference between that and AWB ideology - the difference being that the Nazis found themselves with enough power to carry out their horrific evil). Were these journalists legally found to have committed libel? If not, then this is just an outright lie. Sorry, forgot to sign this earlier PeteSC 12:36, 6 June 2008 (EDT)

The point is that the AWB is not a national socialist organisation and can therefore not be adequately described as neo-nazi. They are a cultural organisation.

I was referring to Greg Marinovich writing in his book The Bang Bang Club that AWB members took pot-shots at passing Black people in Bophuthatswana, when the official enquiry found the AWB to be responsible for only 5 of the 60 civilian deaths.

I am not a racist and I am not defending the actions of the AWB but they deserve neutral and unbiased reports. Everything I have written has been researched, if you can tell me where I wrote something which was, as you say, racist then I will not have a problem with you removing it.

There is nothing racist in the article.

When User:Murray editted the article he desiganted the Bophuthatswana coup as terrorist, even though, as part of the Afrikaner Volksfront, the AWB had the right to be in Bophuthatswana.
Quotes to support my argument re:nazism
"I am convinced that it (the AWB) is not neo-nazi, despite the media image which some newspapers have created"

Dr.Cornelius Mulder, former South African minister for information and leader of the National Conservative Party

On April 27 1987 the AWB held a meeting in Johannesburg in which an AWB member addressed the audience about the increasing number of Black and Colored people living in Johannesburg's suburbs, he said:

"We will chase the kaffirs out of the Jewish buildings"

The media, maliciously, reported that the AWB had said, "We will chase the Jews and Blacks out of Johannesburg", this is untrue.

More evidence. The AWB purposefully broke away from Koos Vermeulen when he formed the Afrikaner National Socialists, if the AWB were neo-nazis surely they would have embraced this?

Alfred123 11:37, 6 June 2008 (EDT)
What is the word "kaffir"? Karajou 11:40, 6 June 2008 (EDT)

It originates from a Muslim word meaning non-believer but it became a derisive term for Blacks in South Africa, equivalent to the n-word.

Alfred123 11:49, 6 June 2008 (EDT)

But to say that the AWB was racist for using that term is unfair because it was in common usage amongst Whites at that time, just like how saying the n-word in 1930s Alabama or Texas did not make you racist, it was just a way of describing Blacks.
The AWB is in actuality an organization based in Nazism, right down to their flag. This article lacks citations throughout, despite the previous user claiming he sourced it all, and what we got is something promoting the AWB as if it was good and benevalent.

Jethro Tull is a British rock band often classified as progressive rock, although they were heavily influenced by blues and folk music. Their lead singer, Ian Anderson, is well-known for playing the flute and for his quirky stage-presence. Their most famous album is Aqualung (1971).

Trivia
Jethro Tull won the first Grammy Award for Heavy Metal performance, causing a great deal of controversy, as many did not consider them to be a heavy metal band. The band did not show up to collect their award, but released a full-page newspaper advertisement the next day stating that "The flute is a heavy metal instrument."fact

Black Sabbath are an English rock band. They are often credited with being the first heavy metal band. It follows that their music has had a considerable, extensive influence over the genre, from the band's formation in Birmingham in 1968 to the present day. Originally, the band's music was a dark amalgamation of blues and psychedelic rock, but quickly developed into the sound recognisable today, setting the template that would be adhered to by many heavy metal and rock bands in the 1970s and 1980s.

They are known to non-fans primarily for the controversy arising from the percieved gloominess of their music and lyrical themes and, more specifically, the erratic on-stage (and, eventually, off-stage) behaviour of frontman Ozzy Osbourne. As often happens, this controversy has eclipsed the cultural significance of the band's music. They are also known for having undergone numerous line-up changes during the course of their long career. Surprisingly, however, the band is currently comprised of the four original members: Tony Iommi, Bill Ward, Terence "Geezer" Butler and Osbourne. However, the line-up of the album Mob Rules (along with Scott Warren as keyboardist) are currently touring as Heaven and Hell, named after the most famous album with Ronnie James Dio as vocalist.

This Is England is an drama film directed by British director Shane Meadows. The film, set during the social and political upheavals of the mid-1980s, centres on the journey of a young boy from an uncontrollable victim of bullying struggling to deal with the death of his soldier father in the Falklands War to a member of what is initially a socially diverse and anti-racist group of skinheads, but which eventually falls under the violent influence of a racist, National Front-member fellow skinhead, recently released from prison. The film deals graphically with the issue of racism in 1980s Britain, and won several awards, including Best British Film in the 2007 BAFTAs and Best Film and Most Promising Newcomer for 13 year-old Thomas Turgoose at the 2006 British Independent Film Awards, for its stark and moving portrayal of 1980s skinhead culture and the ability of the far-right to manipulate the most vulnerable members of society for its own ends. In the UK, the film was rated "18" by the BBFC for its depiction of racism, preventing younger cinema-goers from seeing it. Some councils later overturned this rating, feeling that the powerful moral message of the film should be able to reach a wider audience than that allowed by an "18" rating.

The band formed in 1985 when guitarist John Petrucci, bassist John Myung, and drummer Mike Portnoy met each other while they were all students at the Berklee College of Music. The band initially started out with the name Majesty, but it was later changed to Dream Theater for legal reasons. The band is known for their virtuosity and their songs are generally long and technically proficient, which has led to the band being characterized as one that "people either love or hate". The band is also known for never playing concerts with the same setlist twice. Although Dream Theater songs generally do not receive much airplay, the Hamlet-inspired single Pull Me Under from the album Images and Words became a hit, and several other songs have received minor airplay over the years. It does include many soundbites from both sides of the issue. "In the Name of God" from Train of Thought and "Sacrificed Sons" from Octavarium deal with religiously-based terrorism. "Prophets of War" from Systematic Chaos is Dream Theater's most partisan song to debate, being an anti-Iraq war song.

Where these journalists legally found to have committed libel? If not, then this is just an outright lie.

Blanket term is unacceptable
When User:Murray editted the article he desiganted the Bophuthatswana coup as terrorist, even though, as part of the Afrikaner Volksfront, the AWB had the right to be in Bophuthatswana.
You say "advocating the rights of a nation of people does not make me a racist". True - except it might if you advocate one group's rights entirely at the expense of another group's rights, especially when the group whose rights you dismiss (black South Africans) are in fact the indigenous people of the area in question.PeteSC 11:31, 5 June 2008 (EDT)

Wrong. The Voortrekkers arrived in the Transvaal and Orange Free State first, long before the Bantus came down from their kingdoms to the north.

Only the Zulus were there and the trekkers, after being betrayed by Zulu King Dingaan, negotiated land rights with the Zulus in return for returning some cattle to the Zulu King which was stolen from him by a lesser Chief.
PeterSC if you dispute what I say then I'll suggest some reading material for you to go and read, because it is a common myth that Blacks populated the Boer republics before the Boers.
Alfred123 11:37, 5 June 2008 (EDT)

I'm not interested in reading materials at the moment, but I'd still be very interested to hear what you suggest.

The Bantu were just one tribal group out of a number. The legal documents of the racist SA government during apartheid used the word as a general term to describe all blacks, a bit like describing all British people as "English". You seem to have adopted their technique. So the Zulu were there first? Thanks for the confirmation, I'm glad we agree on that point. PeteSC 11:49, 5 June 2008 (EDT)

Hi. The Zulu were not in what is now known as the Transvaal or Orange Free State (they were empty) they were in the Natal, so my argument holds true that the Boers were there first.

Well calling the South African government racist is highly disputable, they were racialists yes, but not racists.

Alfred123 11:55, 5 June 2008 (EDT)

And Bantu was not a tribal group, it was a word used to signify all Black African tribes from the equator downwards (source- Apartheid:A History by Brian Lapping).

Alfred123 11:56, 5 June 2008 (EDT)

As for reading materials I recommend:

*The Afrikaners by GHL Le May
*Apartheid: A History by Brian Lapping
*The Boer War by Thomas Pakenham
*The Scramble for Africa by Thomas Pakenham
*The Boer War by Gregory Fremont-Barnes

So how was the apartheid system anything but racist? I'm sure our American friends on this site wouldn't hesitate in condemning the way many African Americans were treated for much of the 20th century as racist, and even that wasn't as extreme as apartheid. Exactly what are you views on the position of black Americans during this period. And, for that matter, what are your views on apartheid??? PeteSC 12:05, 5 June 2008 (EDT)

Apartheid, I don't feel I need to clarify my view on that, as you are all clever enough to have deduced where I stand.

As for the mistreatment of Black Americans, it was wrong, but I am not responsible, so I don't feel any guilt for it.

Alfred123 12:10, 5 June 2008 (EDT)

Alfred123 13:39, 5 June 2008 (EDT)

I'd quite like you to answer my original question before I answer your later question, thanks. But as you seem to want to avoid answering it: I think you stand exactly where you expect me to have "deduced" your position to be. PeteSC 13:43, 5 June 2008 (EDT)

I support Apartheid, but not the human rights abuses commited against people under it (eg those tortured by the Security Branch of the police) and the land distribution to the Blacks should have been fairer (not 13% of the land, more like 50%).

So, to me, Apartheid was good in principle, but bad in practice.
Have you been to South Africa?
Are you a south african? have you been to South Africa? The comments you make are in extremely poor taste, incorrect and are totally inappropriate.
I met a lovely (white) South african woman, have been welcomed into her family and heard their shame about being a part of that awful era. I have traveled through South Africa many times. From Jo-Burg to Cape Town and everywhere inbetween. I have spoken to blacks and whites. Been to slums and massive mansions and they all revere Mandela as a National Hero. I have been to the museums and heard the stories and you attitude would be entirely unwelcome in South Africa. And, if you were in S.Africa and you called a black man a Bantu, you would probably be beaten
AdenJ 01:28, 6 June 2008 (EDT)

Hi, my interest in South Africa stems from a friend I met when I started secondary school, he was born in Bloemfontein, but his family was forced to leave in 1996 due to the fact that the ANC government was screwing everything up. I decided to research what he had said and just become more and more curious as to how a European, civilised nation could crumble under a Marxist regime so easily and in such a short period of time.

Your opinion of my comments is utterly irrelevant to anything on here, and I find your comments inappropriate, so I guess it works both ways.

There is people who revere Mandela as a hero of South Africa and a lot who hate his guts, it just depends on who you prefer, I prefer the latter group.

My attitude would be unwelcome amongst some people there yes, but a lot would agree with me. Hence the AWB growing at an unprecedented rate, why? Simply because Whites are tired of seeing South Africa ruined by an incompetant regime, with farm murders, high crime rates, AIDS, Black Economic Empowerment, governmental corruption, power failures and the list goes on.

Please don't come and tell me South Africa is some kind of paradise since Apartheid collapsed because we all, you included, know that it is a worse place than it was under Apartheid.

I dunno where you are located but on BBC 1 some months ago there was a program called No More Mandelas, and in it a Black man who was hungry and unemployed said he wanted the National Party (yes the White regime) to come back, the show's presenter said, "That was a White government that oppressed you" and the Black man replied that at least under Apartheid he could get a job and was not hungry. I rest my case.
Alfred123 05:43, 6 June 2008 (EDT)
Also your comment about a Black man would beat me if I called him a Bantu, well I don't care really, it would just be more proof of my suspicions about the Blacks. Besides making a comment like you did is akin to all these idiots on forums who say, "If you said that to my face in real life I would knock you out", which is childish and ignorant, for a start it shows they are incapable of reasoned debate.

*The Afrikaners by GHL Le May
*The Boer War by Thomas Pakenham

*The Afrikaners by GHL Le May
*Apartheid: A History by Brian Lapping
*The Boer War by Thomas Pakenham

I know you may disagree but I think there is a call for tougher sentencing on all crimes.
I'm from Britain, where politics is no way near as polarised as it appears to be in America. Political classifications are thankfully pretty continuous over here, but I disagree with much of this website and suppose that in America I'd be something of a liberal. I'm a Christian, but before someone calls me a "liberal Christian", I'd like to suggest that "Christian liberal" might be more appropriate. The former suggests that I'm liberal not in politics but in my Christianity, which I do not think I am, although I am very tolerant other faiths and non-faiths as long as they are willing to reciprocate which I have found, on the whole, they are (but, of course, I don't live in Saudi Arabia). I have strong socialist sympathies, but at the same time recognise and deplore the devastation wreaked upon my particular tectonic plate by some of the children of that ideology. I generally consider myself a pacifist. I am a huge supporter of the NHS and have benefited considerably from it's existence. I support the stringent gun laws here in the UK.

I am against gay marriage and adoption by gay couples, but pragmatically believe that gays should be treated equally in the workplace and that, as Christians, we should probably leave people a reasonable degree of freedom to exercise their God-given free-will in deciding whether or not to sin.

I am a huge supporter of the NHS and have benefited considerably from it's existence. I support the stringent gun laws here in the UK.

The former suggests that I'm liberal not in politics but in my Christianity, which I do not think I am, although I am willing to tolerate other faiths and non-faiths as long as they are willing to reciprocate which I have found, on the whole, they are (but, of course, I don't live in Saudi Arabia). I have strong socialist sympathies, but at the same time recognise and deplore the devastation wreaked upon my particular tectonic plate by some of the children of that ideology. I generally consider myself a pacifist. Otherwise, I am relatively socially conservative (no to abortion, homosexuality etc).
