Anthropophagy is an academic term for cannibalism. Most often, anthrophagy is done in a ritualistic setting as one person or group of people attempt to take the "spirit" or "life force" of another person through symbolically or physically eating the flesh of that other person.

Cannibalism is taboo in most all cultures, except where it fulfills this sacred role. In non scientific or medical definitions, cannibalism is also associated with generalized insanity, both as a "cause" for the mentally insane, and as a way to determine if someone is insane. Cannibalism can cause an actual mental disease, known as Kuru. Kuru (sometimes known as laughing sickness) is transmitted by the eating of the brains of other humans and the ingestion of the diseased prions in those brains. There were incidences of Kuru in New Guinea in the 1950s and 1960s.

Cannibalism is generally performed as a last resort in environments where it is literally the only option for survival. However, human flesh, even cooked, is usually toxic and therefore unsafe to eat; thus, those resorting to cannibalism tend to perish as well.

Anthrophagy can be compared to a similar concept, Theophagy, or "eating of the god"; a ritual in most all pre-modern religions where some symbol of the god (for example, corn for the goddess Demeter or tobacco in ancient Native American religions) is eaten in the same understanding of trying to "bring the spirit of the god" into the body of the person "consuming" the god.

PiousOne: I was already on this page, and happened to know a bit about the topic.

Age of consent is a term referring to the age at which a person becomes competent to consent to sexual acts with an adult. In the vast majority of jurisdictions this is set at 14-18, but ages as low as 13 and as high as 20 also exist. There are also sometimes exemptions from this law allowing children below the age of consent to have to sex with other people below a certain age, but not above that age, known informally as "Romeo and Juliet" laws. In the United States, marriage usually exempts a couple from the age of consent laws; however, said marriage requires the full consent of the parents of the man and woman in situations where they are under the age of 18, in order to sign a legal contract. In Muslim countries, it is common to require marriage, oftentimes with the bride having no consent in the matter, and as young as 12.

Historically
England's statutory rape laws, first enacted in 1275, originally protected females under the age of 12. In 1576, during the reign of Elizabeth I, the protected class was reduced to females under the age of ten. In the United States, many states had ages of consent as low as 10 or 12 until the late 19th century. The statutory rape victim's being unchaste, promiscuous, or not a virgin was codified as a defense in every state, since the goal of the law was to protect premarital chastity. These laws were raised to at least 14 in most states by 1920, and made sex neutral later.
U.S. Federal law currently criminalizes prostitution of people under 18 and pornography involving minors. 18 U.S. Code § 2243 criminalizes sexual acts with persons under the age of 16 who are at least four years younger than the defendant if the acts involve transaction between state lines. 18 U.S. Code § 2241 criminalizes sexual acts, or crossing a state line with the intent to commit sexual acts, with a person under the age of 12 as "aggravated sexual abuse" without regard to the age of the defendant.
In the United States in the early twentieth century, the age of consent was generally 10-12. But it had been raised to at least 14 in almost every state by 1930. According to political scientist Harris Mirkin, "Though pedophile organizations were originally a part of the gay/lesbian coalition, gay organizations distance themselves from pedophile organizations in the same way as feminist leaders sought to separate themselves from lesbians." As part of this distancing, some gay rights groups have encouraged the terminology "male-male molestation" be used in place of "homosexual molestation".

However, there have occasionally been signs of a backlash within the movement against crackdowns on pedophilia activists. In 1996, after the North American Man Boy Love Association and two similar European groups were expelled from the International Gay and Lesbian Alliance in order to satisfy the United Nations requirements for granting consultative status, intense internal pressure from ILGA's member organizations nonetheless impelled ILGA to drop a three-year-old requirement that its member groups sign a letter stating they do not condone pedophilia. More than half of ILGA's 450 members refused to sign an anti-pedophile pledge.

In 2013, Rush Limbaugh warned, "Don't Pooh-Pooh the Left's Push to Normalize Pedophilia". In 2013, the German Green Party's most prominent politician disavowed his past support for legalizing sex with children. The Greens nonetheless did poorly in the September 2013 election.

PiousOne: Big clean-up.

Antimatter is composed of fundamental particles that have the same magnitude but opposite sign of electric charge as those of matter.

Matter is made out of particles of nature. These particles can be divided into fermions (matter) and bosons (responsible for forces such as electromagnetism and strong nuclear force). Fermions can be further subdivided into baryons and mesons. Hadrons include the proton and neutron, and leptons include the electron, muon and tau as well as the corresponding neutrinos. For simplicity, the overwhelming majority of matter in the universe is comprised of protons, neutrons and electrons. Antimatter is matter formed from antiparticles, which have the same mass but opposite sign of charge to their corresponding particles. When antimatter is brought into contact with normal matter, both particles are destroyed, resulting in an explosion that is, in terms of mass to explosive power, the most powerful release of energy known to mankind. This is because the mass of the particles is totally annihilated. Such an annihilation (e.g. an electron and a positron) produces two photons. These two are required to satisfy the laws of conservation of both energy and momentum. The total mass of the particles is converted into energy, as described by E=mc².

Discovery
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, antimatter had been the cause of much speculation within the scientific community, With William Hicks, Karl Pearson and Arthur Schuster discussing the idea. The current theory of antimatter was set down in a paper by Paul Dirac in 1928, when he created his version of the Schrödinger wave equation, designed to be compatible with the Theory of relativity. This equation for electrons also raised the possibility for the existence of anti-electrons; electrons that had the same mass but opposite charge and spin. Naturally, all the other particles of matter should also have their opposites.

The anti-electron was first observed by Dmitri Skobeltsyn in 1929, using a Wilson cloud chamber, and again by Chung-Yao Chao in the same year. However, they were first discovered (meaning in this case observed and labeled) by Carl Anderson when he separated the electrons from other types of high energy particles present in cosmic rays based on their mass-to-charge ratio. He found some particles with the same ratio as electrons that moved in the opposite direction when under the influence of a magnet. He had found the anti-electron, which he called the positron.

The anti-proton was first discovered in 1955, by physicists Emilio Segrè and Owen Chamberlain. The first anti-neutron was discovered shortly thereafter in 1956, by Bruce Cork.

Artificial Antimatter
Antimatter is made in super colliders such as the Large Hadron Collider by smashing beams of highly charged particles together. This results in pair production; the creation of a particle and its antiparticle. One of the aims of modern physics is the creation of larger and more complex forms of antimatter. In 1995, CERN announced that it had produced 9 anti-hydrogen atoms. Anti-helium was created in 2003. Physicists are now working on the creation of 'cooler' anti-atoms, as the ones produced so far are more energetic than atoms on the surface of the Sun, thus making them extremely hard to study. Another issue being studied is that of containment; since antimatter annihilates on contact with normal matter, it is difficult to hold it for study. Smaller particles are held in place by carefully managed magnetic fields, but the larger anti-atoms, being magnetically neutral, are much harder to contain.

Natural Antimatter
Antimatter is naturally produced by both (β+) decay and by high energy collisions between particles. Antimatter makes up a very small percentage of cosmic rays, and is occasionally produced when those rays collide with the earth's atmosphere. Antimatter has also been spotted in the Van Allen radiation belts and forming above thunderstorms.

Potassium 40 will (very) occasionally undergo beta decay, producing an anti-electron. As such, the average banana (rich in potassium) will produce a small particle of antimatter every 75 minutes.
Where to start? Firstly Marijuana, or more correctly, Cannabis, is a Schedule I drug in the United States because all Tetrahydrocannabinols aside from synthetic THC are Schedule I. Many conservatives and liberals alike favor the legalization of Cannibis, and I agree with Cracker about the term hippie being rather antiquated. The effects of Cannabis can include the effects listed, along with others. It is no longer considered a gateway drug by the majority of researchers, this label is primarily only used by those opposed to its legalization. It's medicinal use is still hotly debated, but I think that the current information on its use in medicine is rather limited and should be expanded. Lastly, why does in matter if Clinton smoked marijuana? This seems to be gossip at most. --ColinR 16:10, 12 March 2007 (EDT)
Who keeps calling it an "illegal drug"? It is possible to get federal approval for using it, under the Controlled Substances Act. Marihuana is actually notable in world history as "the first drug to be banned by its slang name".
Appraisal of its effects/consequences
RobS is on one, again. He just reverted this eminently sensible addition below. Does anyone else feel that this honest appraisal promotes its use?

:In low doses, marijuana induces mild euphoria followed by a sense of general relaxation and well-being. Users often report heightened perceptions of music, colours and taste. Its effects at these doses are best likened to those of moderate alcohol consumption, but without the same degree of motor impairment and without the disinhibition towards aggression. Indeed, it is virtually impossible to start a fight when stoned.

:In higher doses, marijuana can induce mild to moderate hallucenations. Unlike the direct distortions of sense perception produced by LSD or psilocybin, these hallucenations are mostly "internal," i.e. they are simply functions of the user's hyper-stimulated imagination. There is a small risk of adverse side-effects and their likelihood increases with the dosage. They range from the merely inconvenient (short-term memory loss), through to the somewhat unnerving (paranoia/anxiety) and finally to the downright unpleasant (overwhelming disorientation/vomiting).

:Chronic misuse of marijuana has been widely recognised as a significant risk factor for those with a predisposition towards developing various mental illnesses, particularly schizophrenia. Even for those without such a predisposition, chronic misuse oftens results in the user becoming both very bored and very boring. The key seems to be remembering what the word "recreational" means and moderating one's level of use accordingly.
Objections to presentation of lead
The lead currently has one "cited" sentence saying tumors are on the rise in a demographic that is also a demographic some weed users come from, and then immediately follows it up with a sentence that says that maybe weed stops cancer. I checked the first cite, and all it says in cancer prevalence by demographic, the ties to weed are just an inference by some editor. How do we know that editor made a correct inference? Did they find some study that shows actual correlation (much less causation) or is this just "some men eat apples, some men are criminals, thus apples are a leading cause of criminality?" This kind of "this... but this" waffling is exactly why people turn from Wikipedia, so we should hold ourself to a higher standard and not have a lead paragraph that is a sum-total of "zero" with contrasting claims.

Next, there is a full lead paragraph in the lead which promises sweeping conclusions about weed causing mass killings, and then spend the next several sentences talking exclusively about Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. Does someone have a schoolgirl crush on the guy? It really weakens the whole paragraph to make a broad statement and then fixate on one example.

What I would suggest instead: Make a mass-killings section further down, come up with more than one example and once that section is properly fleshed-out, then put a summary of that section within the lead so the lead is a proper encapsulation of the full body of the text. Right now the reader gets "mass killings", then one guy, and then no further substantiation whatsoever. This undermines the credibility of the article, and is an easy fix. And the passage about murders makes a broad statement and then over-focuses on one fringe example without even a clear connection made. Inarguably we can find some documentation of crimes and accidents caused under the influence of marijuana (the point at hand) so we weaken our argument by supporting a broad sweep with a sole example, particularly given that the terrorist's motivation was Islamism, when we could easily find better examples of killers operating under marijuana-influenced psychosis. The liberals would say yes (they like to over-simplify things) but I'll be researching this soon and come up with a conclusion of my own- very well sourced, of course. --PiousOne (talk) 00:16, 11 July 2019 (EDT)

The term torture refers to physical and/or psychological acts which inflict severe pain or mutilation on prisoners. Governments, armies and tyrants have inflicted torture on opponents throughout recorded history, chiefly against slaves and rebels, but also against political or religious dissidents.

In the West, the best known cases of torture were inflicted by ecclesiastical and political authorities during the Middle Ages. A well-known example from historical fiction occurs in Ivanhoe, and well-known examples from real history can be found in the Malleus Maleficarum, a manual for witch hunters. Opposition to torture on human rights grounds began in the 20th century, yet torture persists in countries as diverse as Saudi Arabia, China and Sudan. <!-- too grisly and disgusting to mention here, but go read The Epoch Times for China. I might talk about ants and hamstringing in the Sudan article. Ed Poor. -->
In a raid on an al-Qaeda safe house in Iraq, U.S. military officials recovered an assortment of crude drawings depicting torture methods like "blowtorch to the skin" and "eye removal". Along with the images, soldiers seized various torture implements, such as meat cleavers, whips, and wire cutters. The images, declassified by the Department of Defense, also include a picture of a ramshackle Baghdad safe house described as an "al-Qaeda torture chamber." It was there, during an April 24, 2007 raid, that soldiers found a man suspended from the ceiling by a chain. According to the military, he had been abducted from his job and was being beaten daily by his captors. Earlier Coalition Forces freed five Iraqis who were found in a padlocked room in Karmah. == UN definition ==
The UN Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment defines torture as:

"...any act by which severe pain or suffering, whether physical or mental, is intentionally inflicted on a person for such purposes as obtaining from him or a third person information or a confession, punishing him for an act he or a third person has committed or is suspected of having committed, or intimidating or coercing him or a third person, or for any reason based on discrimination of any kind, when such pain or suffering is inflicted by or at the instigation of or with the consent or acquiescence of a public official or other person acting in an official capacity. It does not include pain or suffering arising only from, inherent in or incidental to lawful sanctions."

Common methods
Torture is widely practiced in many countries throughout the world as a means of intimidating the ruling regime's opponents. Amnesty International in Asia & the Pacific states that instances of torture or ill treatment by the police have been reported in over 140 different countries since 1997. By far most commonly reported method of torture is physical beatings - other commonly reported methods include:

* Rape and sexual abuse in custody

* Mock execution or threat of death

* Prolonged solitary confinement

* Electric shocks

* Suffocation

* Waterboarding, also known as 'water torture' or 'water cure'

Controversy
It is a matter of dispute whether it serves any valid purpose to distinguish between degrees or levels of torture. To some opponents, "torture is torture" and should always be prohibited. The US maintains that its coercive interrogation techniques are not "torture". While this position has met with considerable resistance from legal experts nationwide, former President George W. Bush vetoed the Amendment, which was intended to tighten the definition of torture. Ironically, under the current administration's definition of "torture", the abuse Senator McCain received while a POW in Vietnam would not be considered torture.

In addition to disagreement over the nature of what is or is not considered torture, controversy exists as to whether torture generally elicits useful information. A large amount of prisoners tortured will eventually break and give up information or confession just to end the torture. John McCain, who is considered both a patriot and a conservative, had his will broken after weeks of torture and the pain of improperly treated injuries, and subsequently signed a written confession stating "I am a black criminal and I have performed the deeds of an air pirate. I almost died and the Vietnamese people saved my life, thanks to the doctors." Examples like this illustrate that rather than evoking truthful statements or valuable intelligence, torture has the equal potential to elicit misinformation, and is therefore of questionable value.

The signatories to the Geneva Convention in 1949 defined relative classes of persons who may be considered "prisoners". The Bush administration has classified terrorists as unlawful combatants not associated with any signatory power and maintain that previous international conventions have not addressed this classification.
trinity

God is the sovereign creator and eternal ruler of all things and beings that exist, whether in the physical universe or in the spiritual realm (Heaven). Not only is God the creator and ruler of the things and beings within those two realms, but He is also the creator of the realms themselves. God created the physical universe, and before He acted in this creation, the universe did not exist. Likewise, God did this with the spiritual realm.

God is Revealed: How we know about God
Other than creation itself, God is revealed in several ways, including theological correlates, conscience, and special revelation (the Bible, and prophets). Most importantly though, God is revealed in Jesus Christ, who is the Son of God.

Attributes or Character of God
The attributes of God are things that describe who He is. Similar to the way one might describe a close friend to another individual, so too do these attributes describe God's character and nature. Attributes of God include but are not limited to Wisdom, Infinitude, Sovereignty, Holiness, Trinity, Omniscience, Faithfulness, Love, Omnipotence, Self-existence, Self-sufficiency, Justice, Immutability, Mercy, Eternal, Goodness, Graciousness, and Omnipresence. These attributes all work in complete and perfect harmony with one another.

God exercises eternal and righteous judgment of the wicked in Hell, because of an inherent problem in the human heart, namely Sin. According to the Bible, the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary and then resurrection is God's merciful and gracious response to the problem of the human heart.

God is Triune
Trinity

Although the Bible does not use the term, it is clear that God is a triune God, or three in one.
These are sometimes referred to as God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit.

The first hint of the Trinity is in Genesis which relates God saying, "Let us make man in our image", indicating that God is a plurality.

The three beings of God are treated as equivalents in these words of Jesus shortly after His resurrection:

Jesus is God
The first verse of the Gospel of John, in which Jesus is referred to as the "Word", makes clear that Jesus is synonymous with God:

This verse not only says that "the Word" (Jesus) is synonymous with God, but also says that the Word was "in the beginning", which means that He existed before all else existed, something that is only true of God.

This is reinforced two verses later, in which Jesus is described as the creator.
Genesis refers to God as being the Creator.

The Holy Spirit is God
In the following passage, the Holy Spirit is referred to as God:

God is Omniscient
omniscience

God knows everything:

Because God is outside of time, He can see and knows the past and the future as well as the present.

"God" sometimes used to refer to God the Father
In the Bible, the word "God" (θεός) does not always refer to God's being as a whole, but more specifically refers to the Person of the Father (God the Father). Here are some verses which demonstrate this:

Notice how in each case, "Father" can be substituted for "God." For example, "For the Father so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son," and "not that we loved the Father, but that He loved us and sent His Son."
Clear

Terminology
The Bible uses several different words to refer to God.
"God" itself is not a name, but an Old English word meaning supreme being, deity, which the translators who translated the Bible in to English chose as the appropriate English word for the Hebrew elohim and the Greek theos used in the Old Testament and New Testament respectively.

The other main term for God is the Hebrew adonai, usually translated Lord.
There are various compound words also used in the Bible, such as el shaddai, which means God Almighty ("el" is a short version of elohim).

In the original tongues, God the Father is sometimes mistranslated due to the lack of an English equivalence. In such cases, the closest English approximation is "daddy", thus showing humanity's closeness with Him.

YHWH is given in the Bible as God's actual name. In most English Bibles it is translated as <span style="font-variant:small-caps">Lord</span>, in small capitals. The name has various other English versions, including Yehovah, Jehovah, and Yahweh.

<small>This article is about the biblical God. For the term as used to refer to any divine being, see Other gods</small>
