The Resolution is notable for being the first ship to cross the [[Antarctic]] Circle, and did so twice. Furthermore, under Cook, the resolution became the first ship to ever determine longitude at sea, with an extraordinarily accurate marine chronometer, the K1. HMS Resolution was the ship that explored for Great Britain the west coast of North America, and it's inlets, Hawaii, and many of the pacific islands.

Following her service as an exploration ship, the Resolution was captured by the French. According to contemporary sources, the Resolution was captured, by the French. She was then believed to have been renamed the "La Liberté", and spent the rest of her career as a French mercantile ship.
