In a letter to [[John Quincy Adams]] dated 30 December 1818, Pinckney said he had kept a journal of the proceedings at the Convention. Pelley claimed that Pinckney published the Journal "for private distribution among his friends" under the title ''Chit-Chat Around the Table During Intermissions''.
