The Senate Tea Party Caucus is a group of conservative Senators committed to listening to and acting upon the ideas and concerns of the Tea Party Movement.
Led by Jim DeMint, Mike Lee and Rand Paul, their support signals approval for the Tea Party and an opportunity to strengthen the movement so that it might become a more powerful political force. Some conservatives, such as newly elected Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), have concerns about co-opting the popular grassroots movement, but may ultimately join this caucus.[1]
Its first public meeting, with good attendance by grassroots Tea Partiers and the media, was held on January 27, 2011.
