Paul Albert Anka was born on July 30, 1941 in Ottawa, Canada and in 1990 became a naturalized citizen of the United States.
With his youth in the big band era and the infancy of rock and roll, as a teenager Paul traveled to New York City to audition for ABC singing a song he wrote about a former babysitter named Diana. The song rocketed to the top of the Hit Parade in 1957 and became one of the best selling recordings of all time. He followed up with chart toppers:
