Jessica's Law refers to the Jessica Lunsford Act passed in Florida and proposed as a federal law.[1] It is named in memory of nine-year old Jessica Lunsford, who was abducted, sexually assaulted and then buried alive by John Evander Couey.[2] The law mandates a minimum sentence of 25 years and a maximum of life in prison for first-time child sex offenders. So far, 33 states have enacted all or some of the law.
