Greater Iran (Persian ایران بزرگ, Irān-e Bozorg) is a term used to describe regions in the Middle East which have strong cultural ties to Iranian nations. This includes all of Iran, as well as parts of Afghanistan, Iraq, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Turkmenistan, and Georgia (mainly Ossetia).
States to have ruled over greater Iran include the Achaemenid Empire, the Islamic Caliphates, and the Macedonian Empire of Alexander the Great.
