In Pierce County v. Guillen, 537 U.S. 129, 147 (2003), a unanimous U.S. Supreme Court upheld federal legislation maintaining the confidentiality of highway transportation documents because the legislation was "aimed at improving safety in the channels of commerce."
Justice Clarence Thomas, whose takes a more limiting view of the Commerce Clause than any other Justice, wrote the decision for the Court.
