Regulatory credits are units which can be bought and sold by companies to deal with environmental regulations, particularly limits on emissions by cars. The global warming regulators force companies which might exceed emission limits to buy credits from companies that are under the limits.

Tesla Motors has boosted its revenue by selling regulatory credits relating to car emissions to more traditional car manufacturers, such as General Motors.
