Texas Senate

The Texas Senate is part of the bicameral legislative body that is in session the first five months of every odd-numbered year.
It consists of 31 members, chosen from single-member districts. The Lieutenant Governor of Texas presides over the chamber, and votes only in cases of a tie.
Similar to the U.S. Senate, the Texas Senate has a cloture rule that requires a 2/3rds majority to overcome filibusters. But on July 31, 2012, pro-life conservative Donna Campbell defeated by a 2-1 landslide an abortion-supporting incumbent, to give pro-lifers a 2/3rds super-majority in the Texas Senate.[1]
