The African Burial Ground is the name of a surprise discovery in 1991 of hundreds of bones of African slaves in Manhattan. These slaves had been badly mistreated and exploited to build New York City. Their bones "tell[] a little-known story of early New York."[1]

Though located in lower Manhattan adjacent to the Ted Weiss Federal Building at 290 Broadway, and designated as a federal landmark, there is little publicity about this evidence how New York City exploited African slaves in creating itse wealth.[2]
