A German Shepard is a large breed of dogs originally bred in Mongolia. The name "German Shepard" dates to the Crimean War where the Germans used many of the breed as work and rescue dogs. During World War I German Shepard dogs were known as "Ausberger Hounds" due to the anti-German sentiment in the United States.
