Super Bowl XLIX was the championship football game of the National Football League (NFL) for the 2014 season. The American Football Conference (AFC) champion New England Patriots defeated the National Football Conference (NFC) champion Seattle Seahawks 28–24. The game was played on February 1, 2015, at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

The selection of the Patriots as AFC champion was controversial because the footballs used in the first half of the AFC championship game had been deflated below NFL specifications.

Both Super Bowl teams were evenly matched, and the game was tied 14-14 at the half. The Seahawks then earned a 10-point lead at the end of the third quarter. Tom Brady then threw outstanding passes which brought the score to 28-24 with two minutes left in the game. But with just a minute to go, Jermaine Kearse bobbled and caught a deflected pass to put the Seahawks in scoring position. Although the Seahawks were on the one yard line, they called a slant pass, which was intercepted, leaving the Patriots with control of the ball and the ability to run out the clock.

Tom Brady was named most valuable player.
