"99 Red Balloons" (1983) is a antiwar pop song from German singer Nena. The red balloons symbolize many things such as air force pilots in high tech jet fighters (each one a superhero or "Captain Kirk") or the singer's poignant wishes after her city is destroyed. The original German title is "99 Luftballons" which is translated as 99 air balloons.
