The Anthropogenic global warming theory states that most modern global warming has been caused by human activity such as burning fossil fuels. Emissions from fossil fuel combustion are believed to cause more heat to be trapped in the earth's atmosphere. The theory is opposed by scientists who have noted a negative feedback relationship between cloud cover and temperature rise; hotter air causes the oceans to evaporate faster, which promotes cloud formation; clouds reflect sunlight away from the earth, and in their shade the oceans and land get less sunshine and cool down.
