The Akkadian Empire 2360-2180 B.C. was situated in Sumeria in the fertile crescent in the lower Mesopotamia and north of the Sumer River. King Sargon the Great created the empire by overrunning the Kish. An area that had few natural defenses, it lacked the long lasting nature of, say, the kingdom of Egypt during that same time period.
