The American Association of University Professors (AAUP) is the main academic professional association dominated by the political left.[1]
The AAUP defines academic freedom in such a way to exclude faithfully religious universities like the Catholic University of America:
Freedom of conscience in teaching and research is essential to maintain academic integrity and fulfill the basic purposes of higher education; consequently, any restriction on academic freedom raises grave issues of professional concern.[2]
