American Marine Painting
Petite Gallery
Frederic Edwin Church, Floating Icebergs, 1859.
Crepuscule in Opal Trouville, by James Whistler, 1865.
Thomas Moran, Moonlit Seascape, 1891.
Winslow Homer, The Coming Storm, 1901.
Thomas Moran, Icebergs in Mid Atlantic, 1909.
Rockwell Kent, May North Greenland, 1935 -1937.
Georgica pond at Sunset by Ian Hornak, 1973.
Autumn Landscape by Jacob Collins, 1998.
I prefer maritime subjects mostly because I enjoy the way water reflects the sky, the coast, and the weather. It mirrors the shapes of objects on its surface and intensifies their light. I paint outdoors to capture the light first hand and bring out all the color and luminosity. LEONARD MIZEREK. [1]
