Andy Warhol was a 20th century artist of Polish origin who, starting as an advertising illustrator, pioneered 'Pop Art' which used pop-culture imagery to make beautiful paintings, a paradoxical process. He was also a notable experimental film-maker.

The author Gore Vidal said of him, rather unflatteringly, that "Andy Warhol is the only genius with an IQ of 60."

Although he survived being shot by radical feminist Valerie Solanis in 1968, he died in 1987.
