Each year thousands of dogs are stolen in China and as many as 20 million dogs are killed in China to satisfy the dog meat industry.[1]

According to ABC News, gruesome techniques are used in Chinese dog slaughterhouses.[2]

China has the world's largest atheist population.[3] It also has state atheism (See: China and atheism).

Most atheists in the world are East Asian (see: Asian atheism).

The journal Science published an article entitled Dog breeds really do have distinct personalities — and they’re rooted in DNA.[4]

The aforementioned article in Science declares:

American Kennel Club descriptions of dog breeds can read like online dating profiles: The border collie is a workaholic; the German shepherd will put its life on the line for loved ones. Now, in the most comprehensive study of its kind to date, scientists have shown that such distinct breed traits are actually rooted in a dog’s genes. The findings may shed light on human behaviors as well.[5]

Most atheists in the world are East Asian (see: Asian atheism).

Each year thousands of dogs are stolen in atheist, communist controlled China and as many as 20 million dogs are killed in China to satisfy the dog meat industry.[11] In China, Chinese gangs have cropped up that kidnap pet dogs to sell to dog meat traders.[12]

According to ABC News, gruesome techniques are used in Chinese dog slaughterhouses.[13] Brutal beatings of dogs are occurring in the Chinese dog meat trade during the slaughtering process.[14]

In 2018, the South China Morning Post indicated:

Every second somewhere in Asia a dog is slaughtered – flayed or cooked alive, bludgeoned to death, or poisoned – to feed a growing appetite for dog meat in China and other countries in the region. That’s 30 million dogs a year.

“Many of us have seen heartbreaking photos that show the Yulin dog market in China, but the dog meat market in Vietnam is just as bad if not worse,” Yuen says. “Like China, dog markets there get their supplies from the theft of pets, which are often crammed into small cages and delivered to restaurants.

“There are even restaurant chains operating like McDonald's; it’s just unbelievable.”...

...we have been spotlighting the savage treatment of dogs in China especially during this time of the year at the Yulin Dog Meat Festival...

“Wherever these dog meat consumers go – such as to places where they have emigrated – they will bring their unethical and inhumane practices with them,” Pang says...

Pang says that, between 2003 and 2017, 436 tonnes of dog meat was exported from China to Chinese restaurants in Japan, a country full of dog lovers. Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries says around 25 tonnes of dog meat was imported from Vietnam in the past three years. Yuen says it is likely the meat was served mainly to immigrants and migrant workers living in the country.[15]

Officially, Vietnam is an atheist state.[17]

Many Vietnamese believe eating dog/canine meat increases stamina.[18]

In 2014, the South China Morning Post declared:

In Vietnam, an estimated five million canines - many of them stolen pets - are slaughtered and served in restaurants each year...

Minh is one of more than 40 dog traders in Son Dong, which lies 160km south of the capital, in Thanh Hoa province. It is the epicentre of Vietnam's massive dog-meat industry, which devours an estimated five million animals a year. For thousands of dogs, the village's miserable, unwashed pens represent the penultimate stop on a long and tortuous road to death.

Here, the terrified animals are kept for days. They have rice forcibly pumped into their stomachs - some suffocate in the process - to increase their weight before they are stuffed back in cages and trucked to restaurants and slaughterhouses, and sold for about HK$24 a kilogram.

When they arrive at a restaurant, each dog is beaten on the head with a metal bar and then has its throat cut before being put, often still conscious, into a barrel of boiling water. Finally, it is skinned in a revolving drum.[19]

According to the Huffington Post:

Vietnam’s dog meat industry is a dark one, rife with cruelty and illegality as hundreds of dogs are snatched from streets or family gardens by roving bands of dog thieves. At a restaurant you might not be eating your own companion, but chances are you’re eating someone else’s.[20]

In 2018, The Independent declared:

Officials in Vietnam's capital are urging residents to avoid eating dog meat, as part of a move to eradicate rabies.

Hanoi's vice mayor Nguyen Van Suu also said that slaughtering dogs and cats for their meat was disturbing to foreigners and would "negatively impact the image of a civilized and modern capital."

His message was published on the city's website.

Suu also instructed local governments to raise awareness of the risk of rabies when consuming dog and cat meat.

His move is part of an effort to stamp out rabies in Vietnam by 2021. The move is a contentious one as many Vietnamese believe that eating dog meat increases stamina and the dish is thought of as a delicacy.

There are 493,000 dogs and cats in Hanoi, of which 10% are raised for commercial purposes, including for their meat.[21]

Sketch of Kim Jong-un

North Korea practices state atheism and belief in God is actively discouraged.[22]

In 2018, USA Today published an article entitled 'It’s healthier than other kinds of meat': North Koreans eat dog meat to beat the heat.[23] The USA Today article declares: "In North Korea, summer is not a good time to be a dog."[24]

The Express reported in 2016:

North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un wants his famished people to eat more dogs because it is “stamina food”, according to local reports.

To make the pet meat even tastier, dogs should be beaten, flayed and then scorched, says the reviled despot.

Cooked dog – called “dangogi” or sweet meat in Korean – is also being described to the country’s starving masses as having more vitamins than chicken, pork, beef and duck as well as having medicinal benefit for the stomach and intestines.

Famine in the communist dictatorship, the result of floods and droughts as well as economic management failings, has been blamed for the deaths of up to 300,000 people during 1990s.

Feeding dog to the starving masses is one answer to its food shortages, and the country’s heavily-controlled media appears to have been given the nod from on high to promote canine meat.

North Korea’s answer to a reality cookery show has been recently witnessing contestants creating dishes out of the animals, while in the capital of Pyongyang a dog meat restaurant recently opened.[25]

Christianized world and dog meat eating

In the Christianized world (or countries that have a Christian legacy), where Christians make up the majority of the population, dog eating is not common.

Rabbi Levi Welton wrote:

...I've often wondered if the Bible supports animal activism and what exactly God would say if I posed the question, "Do You love dogs?"

Dogs are the only animals in the Torah that receive a reward for their actions. When the Jewish slaves flee Egypt, it states "not one dog barked” (Exodus 11:7). As a reward for that, God said, "…and flesh torn in the field you shall not eat; you shall throw it to the dog[s]" (Exodus 22:30; Mechilta)...

The notable sixteenth century Jewish leader, the Maharsha, says that a dog is a creature of love. Hence, the Hebrew name for a dog is "kelev" which is etymologically derived from the words "kulo lev" or "all heart"... Now remember that Adam and Eve were instructed by God to give all the animals of the world their Hebrew names (Genesis 2:19-20). When they made this personal connection with the beasts of the world, the names they chose were prophetically accurate so as to encapsulate the essence of each animal into a name that truly revealed its soul. (Bereishit Rabbah 17:4). Thus, one may extrapolate from this that the Hebrew name for a dog was precisely chosen to be indicative of the loving soul of this marvelous creature.[31]
