The Australian Music Examinations Board or AMEB provides assessment and examinations for music students across Australia. The assessments are split into four main areas:
- Practical (performance and general knowledge of music notation)
- Musicianship (theory of music and aural testing)
- Theory of Music (theory only)
- Music Craft
The Board offers assessment in a wide range of musical instruments including, keyboard/piano, strings, woodwind, orchestral brass, band and voice.
Assessment and examinations are sectioned into grades of difficulty, usually first to eighth grade. Preparatory and preliminary examinations are offered for beginning musicians.
