Average velocity

Average velocity is the average of an object's velocity over a period of time. The smaller the time span of an average velocity, the closer it is to instantaneous velocity. It can be found by dividing the displacement of an object by the time taken for that displacement to occur.

Average velocity is written mathematically as

where is the average velocity, and are the initial and final positions, and and are the initial and final times.[1]
