The Battle of Leyte Gulf was a battle in World War II in October 1944. In this battle, American forces smashed Japanese sea power in the Philippines. It was the greatest naval battle of the 20th century, involving over 250 ships, over 180,000 men, and almost 2000 aircraft.[1]
