Ben Ray Luján is the junior United States Senator for the heavily Democrat state of New Mexico. Previously from 2009 to 2021, he was the United States Representative for New Mexico's 3rd congressional distric in the northwestern part of the state. He is a staunch supporter of abortion.
U.S. House of Representatives
Luján voted in favor of the left-wing Equality Act[1] and has expressed "hope" that young Republicans will push for what he considers "diversity".[2]
In late 2019, Luján, along with Nancy Pelosi and other House Democrats, blocked the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act for the 80th time.[3]
Luján supported the impeachment coup "investigation" against Donald Trump[4] and voted along with his party line on both articles to impeach the president.[5]
2020 Senate run
After liberal incumbent senator Tom Udall announced in March 2019 that he wasn't seeking re-election in 2020,[6] Luján soon declared his run for the seat.[7] According to the New Haven Register on February 4, 2020, he raised nearly 1 million dollars for his campaign in addition to the $2 million in cash-on-hand he already possesses.[8]
Luján won the general election over Republican nominee Mark Ronchetti, but only by just under 6% of the votes cast.[9]
Political views
Luján is a liberal who supports ObamaCare, raising taxes on the wealthy, stimulus spending bills, and raising the minimum wage.[10]
Family
Luján's cousin is Michelle Lujan Grisham, the current radical, extremely pro-abortion[11] governor of New Mexico.
