Ben Roethlisberger (born March 2, 1982) is the starting National Football League quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He has played for the Steelers since 2004. He attended Miami University (Ohio).

Originally hired as a backup quarterback, he replaced the Steelers' starting quarterback, Tommy Maddox after Maddox was sidelined during the 2004 season from an injury. Roethlisberger played so well, leading the Steelers to a 14 game winning streak during the 2004-5 season, that he was kept as the starting quarterback. He was picked as NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in January 2005. During the 2005-6 season he led the Steelers to victory in Super Bowl XL over the Seattle Seahawks. He was the youngest quarterback ever to win a Super Bowl at 23 years old at the time.

During the summer following the Steelers' Super Bowl victory, Roethlisberger suffered serious injuries in a motorcycle accident. He recovered in time to start the 2006-7 season but then missed the first game due to an emergency appendicitis operation, and was temporarily sidelined later in the season from a concussion. There had been some question over his ability to return to form after his motorcycle accident, and combined with the other injuries left him sidelined during some games and performing sub-par during many games in which he did play. Backup quarterback Charlie Batch was the quarterback in several Steelers games during the 2006-7 season.

As of the 2007-8 season, Ben Roethlisberger is back full time and performing up to the standards of the 2005-6 season.

2009 Lawsuit

In July of 2009, a woman filed a civil lawsuit against Roethlisberger, accusing him of assault in 2008 at a Nevada hotel.[1] The suit seeks monetary damages from the player and eight other defendants.
