Benjamin Banneker

Benjamin Banneker, born on November 9, 1731, was the first African-American scientist.[Citation Needed] He also studied mathematics, astronomy, and mechanics. In 1790, he was appointed by President George Washington to help lay out and measure the city of Washington, D.C.
