Benjamin Britten (1913-1976) was a British composer who produced a number of the twentieth century's greatest operas, including works based on the nineteenth century novels Turn of the Screw and Billy Budd.

Britten was also an open homosexual who "partnered" with Peter Pears [1]. He was also an animal rights radical who hated hunting [2].
