Bernard Lewis is one of the West's premier scholars of Middle Eastern studies
He wrote in 1986:
- "The volume of anti-Semitic books and articles published, the size and number of editions and impressions, the eminence and authority of those who write, publish, and sponsor them, their place in school and college curricula, their role in the mass media, would all seem to suggest that classical anti-Semitism is an essential part of Arab intellectual life at the present time –– almost as much as happened in Nazi Germany." - In an interview ... for Fox News' "War Stories," he contrasted how we fought fascism during World War II with the current conflict. He said: "Then we knew who the enemy was. We knew who we were. Nowadays ... we have great difficulty in defining the enemy. We have to be careful not to offend anybody. We don't even seem to be able to define our own cause, let alone the enemy's.
