Bubba Watson
Bubba Watson (born November 5, 1978) is an American professional golfer. He was the surprise winner of the 2012 and 2014 Masters. His victory in 2012 is remembered primarily for his remarkable recovery shot from the pine straw on the second hole of the sudden-death playoff against Louis Oosthuizen:
Blocked out by trees, he had no angle to the green, and so he invented his own—a physics-defying snap hook with a fifty-two-degree gap wedge that sailed toward the far side of the fairway before making a boomerang sweep to the right and, incredibly, settling on the green ten feet from the pin.[1][2]
His prodigious ability to shape the ball both left and right, coupled with his power and distance, make Watson an exciting player to watch, but can often leave him wildly out of position when his game goes awry.
Raised in the panhandle of Florida—perhaps the most conservative area in the nation—Watson converted to Christianity as an adult and subsequently adopted a child with his wife, a 6'4" former women's basketball player.
Despite his newly found fame and demands on his time, Watson spent the weekend following his victory in 2012 by playing in Tim Tebow's charity golf classic, which raises money to spread the Christian faith to those who have not yet benefited from it.
Outside his two Masters titles, Watson's form in major tournaments is poor, with 20 missed cuts and only three other top-10 finishes to date (T5, 2007 US Open; 2nd, 2010 PGA Championship; T5, 2018 Masters).[3] He has twelve PGA Tour victories, including two World Golf Championship titles: the 2014 WGC-HSBC Champions and the 2018 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play.[4]
