Carnot

Sadi Carnot (b. June 1, 1796, Paris, France — d. August 24, 1832, also in Paris) was a French physicist who described the Carnot cycle, which concerns the theory of heat engines.
Carnot was the eldest son of Lazare Carnot (b. May 13, 1753, in Nolay, Burgundy, France — d. August 2, 1823, in Magdeburg, Prussian Saxony (now Germany)), who was prominent in the French Revolution and who served on the Committees for General Defense, Public Safety and the Directory in the 1790s.
