Carrie Prejean was a contestant representing California for the 2009 Miss USA Pageant. Prejean created a media firestorm with her response to radically liberal, gay vlogger and Miss USA judge Perez Hilton's question about the legalization of gay marriage.
Perez Hilton: "Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalize same-sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit?"
Carrie Prejean: "I think it's great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land that you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage and, you know what, in my country and my family I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anyone out there but that's how I was raised and that's how I think it should be between a man and a woman."
In response, many members of the audience cheered or booed. Hilton predictably disliked the answer and attacked her publicly on his blog, stating, "She gave the worst answer in pageant history. She got booed. I think that was the first time in Miss USA ever that a contestant has been booed. She lost not because she doesn't believe in gay marriage. Miss California lost because she's a dumb b****, OK?" Hilton issued a half-hearted apology, but later went on national TV to rescind his apology and to say that he said the "b-word," but was actually thinking the "c-word."
