Charles Joseph "Charlie" Melancon (born October 3, 1947) has served as the Democratic U.S. Representative from Louisiana's third congressional district since 2005. He currently serves on the Energy and Commerce Committee and Budget Committee. He is a candidate for United States Senate in 2010 against Republican David Vitter.
Melancon received a Bachelor's degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana and served as a member of the Louisiana state house of representatives from 1987 to 1993.
