A chemical bond is an attachment by two atoms that is stable and does not separate easily. The stability of the bond is the result of its energy being lower than the corresponding energy of the separated atoms. The chemical bond is the result of a net attractive force bring together the two atoms.

Types of chemical bonds

Chemical bonds subdivides into Intermolecular forces and Intramolecular forces:

Intramolecular forces

  • covalent bond, in which two atoms share one or more pairs of electrons
  • ionic bond, in which one or more electrons are removed from one atom in order to attach them to another atom, resulting in the attraction of positive and negative ions towards each other.
  • metallic bond
