Christopher D'Olier Reeve (born 1952 - died 2004) was an American actor, best known for his role as Superman in the 1978 film of the same name.

In 1995, he suffered a severe spinal injury after a fall while riding a horse. He was left a quadriplegic, but he still remained an actor, even directing and producing some films.

Outside of the film industry, Reeve was an outspoken supporter of disabled people, supported the Special Olympics, and was an advocate of embryonic stem cellresearch. Sadly, he died in 2004 at the young age of 52, from a bedsore that became badly infected.
