A colonel is a commissioned officer ranking above a lieutenant colonel in America's army, air force and marines. With a pay grade of O-6, a colonel's rank is equivalent to a navy captain.

It is also the highest non-military title of honor within the Commonwealth of Kentucky for noteworthy accomplishments.
