A discussion was started regarding the type and number of monthly awards to be given for meritorious contributions to Conservapedia: http://www.conservapedia.com/User_talk:Aschlafly#Productivity_at_Conservapedia_recognized_monthly Andy Schlafly, the owner of Conservapedia, likes the idea of having monthly awards. I also think that Conservapedia monthly award templates should be created so that they can be put on Conservapedian user pages (see: http://www.conservapedia.com/User_talk:Aschlafly#Conservapedia_monthly_award_templates ).

In line with Mr. Schlafly's thinking I agree that these should be simple, i.e. there should only be a few awards each month otherwise they lose their value. I suppose "service levels" would depend on the accumulation of points over a period. Also I don't think it is a good idea to name the awards after people who are not Conservapedians as we do not have the rights to their name. They should just be called the Conservapedia awards. I don't wish to spend too much effort on this just at the moment as I am involved with a lot of activities for our church at this time - (carol services as well as organising the cooking and delivery of meals to the elderly and poor of our parish on Christmas day). So I would like to see more discussions and a clear idea of a workable system. I may not actually be doing much but I will think a bout it a lot. I don't agree with you about the awards not being named after people in some cases. I do think that when names are used they should be used to honor historical figures and not contemporary figures. conservative 16:46, 14 December 2008 (EST)

Well I guess that was what I really meant; that we should exclude living people. Even so, we should consider with what authority we make use of someone else's name. BrianCo 17:17, 14 December 2008 (EST)

I do realize that it is courteous to have a living person agree to have their name used for an award. I thought having a historical person be used for an award would streamline the process of using a name based award in certain cases. However, I have rethought my position, as long as we have the person's permission, I see nothing wrong with using the person's name. I may contact Mr. Gish as far as a Duane Gish award (see: http://www.conservapedia.com/User_talk:Aschlafly#In_2009_have_monthly_Duane_Gish_awards ), but if I cannot get reach him, I think we should use Henry Morris instead. conservative 17:25, 14 December 2008 (EST)

I agree it is a good idea. I don't agree with the quality of the medals. Since contributors are enticed to win these, I think they should look as close as possible to actual medals and not clip art. [1] --jpatt 11:55, 16 December 2008 (EST)

I like the idea of subject area awards combined with a few key Geo's awards (see: Conservapedia:Awards ). I also think an award should go to the editor who does the most main space edits for a month. I think the winner of the awards should be voted on by the users and done monthly. I don't like the idea of a Liberal Awareness award. I don't even know how that award would be decided and I just don't think it is necessary as the "New Stories" and Essays should cover it and it seems as if Sysop Dean is handling the News Stories area along with Andy. I can theoretically make any requests (so long as there's a base image to put in the middle). However, general input would be good. Should they have something written in the top portion, or be changed otherwise? - Rod Weathers 17:18, 18 December 2008 (EST)

Personally, I like the way they look now, as for the certain medals, here's some design ideas:

• Agriculture: A field with livestock and/or crops
• Journalism: A newspaper
• Sports: Different sports balls (football, baseball, etc.)
• Law: A gavel

Excellent work Rod, I did something similar while I was offline (severed broadband cable, thanks to the local water company) but yours are better (mine were perhaps too shiny). Dr. Duane Gish will likely soon have an evolutionary refutation monthly award named after him!

A few more ideas for awards

The Straw Hat award (a picture of a straw hat will do fine) - awarded for a user creating his/her first 25 new pages (not userpage or talkpage)

The Gold Spanner award - for a user's tireless efforts to repair damage caused by vandals and for mending typos/ other errors.
