Crater

A crater is a large depression left in solid matter due to the rapid delivery of kinetic energy (force). These are generally the result of the high-velocity impact of a smaller object such as a meteor with the surface of a much larger planet, moon, or asteroid. However, they can also be caused by other rapid releases of energy such as bomb detonations.
