Dadaism, or Dada, was a movement in art in from 1916 to 1922 that produced a wide variety of visual, performed, and written art. Dadaists were largely anti-war, and even "anti-art." Their work questioned and challenged conceptions about what art was and what it meant and was designed to shock the viewer, purportedly to awaken the imagination. Prominent artists included Arp and Kurt Schwitters. They had a significant influence on later modernistic art trends, particularly surrealism.
